Queen will ‘rise above’ Meghan and Harry ‘mess’ to ensure Crown survives, says expert

· March 4, 2021 ·

An American arrives in the Royal Family and causes uproar, bitterness and recriminations that will echo down the years. Yes, Meghan Markle , but almost a century earlier Wallis Simpson, without whom our queen would not be sitting on the throne. The 1936 abdication crisis set in motion events that have an eerie resonance with this new royal storm. Not only did it mean the Queen’s father became king, it taught a young Elizabeth that protecting the monarchy reigns supreme. It is arguable her father gave his life for the Crown – his wife, later the Queen Mother, believed this to be the case. What is your view? Have your say in the comments section She never forgave Wallis Simpson for condemning him to kingship, the stress shortening his life and sentencing her to almost half a century of widowhood. With her beloved father setting such an unselfish example, it is no surprise in the decades following his death the Queen has placed safeguarding the monarchy above all … [Read more...] about Queen will ‘rise above’ Meghan and Harry ‘mess’ to ensure Crown survives, says expert

Why is Saudi Prince Bin Salman not being punished for my fiance Jamal Khashoggi’s brutal murder?

· March 4, 2021 ·

SAUDI Arabia’s Crown Prince stands accused of having blood on his hands over the audacious murder of rebel journalist Jamal Khashoggi. The dissident was slain in the Saudi consulate in Turkey more than two years ago — and dramatic new evidence suggests the oil-rich nation’s ruler Mohammed bin Salman watched the killing via video link. Bin Salman, the Saudis’ Crown Prince, denies having anything to do with Jamal’s death but investigators suspect the victim was killed on camera so the murder could be overseen in his home country. The evidence features in new documentary The Dissident , directed by Oscar winner Bryan Fogel. US investigators, as well as the United Nations, believe Bin Salman backed the slaying of Jamal. The Turkish authorities recorded all of the conversations inside the Saudi consulate where the journalist was killed in October 2018. The documentary claims the murder had been planned in advance. ‘THEY START TO CUT UP THE BODY WITH A BONE SAW’ … [Read more...] about Why is Saudi Prince Bin Salman not being punished for my fiance Jamal Khashoggi’s brutal murder?

Melanie Leupolz: Germany can learn from Women’s Super League

· January 3, 2021 ·

When Melanie Leupolz was presented with the chance to swap Bayern Munich for Chelsea last year, it was an offer she simply couldn’t refuse. The allure of the Women's Super League (WSL), and the opportunity to experience something new was a dream come true. After finishing the season at Bayern, she packed her bags and headed for London. "I always wanted to play abroad," she told DW. "For me the English league is the best in the world because it is really equal and there are so many good teams. It was my first wish to go here, and I am really happy that everything worked out." It had been going so well at Bayern — where Leupolz was club captain. She had joined in 2014 from Freiburg and won back-to-back Women's Bundesliga titles in her first two years in Bavaria. But Leupolz explained how the German top flight had become repetitive over the years, with the same two teams winning the league over and over again. She had a point. Since 2012, the title has been won exclusively by … [Read more...] about Melanie Leupolz: Germany can learn from Women’s Super League

Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury £200m mega-fight could be pushed back to July

· March 5, 2021 ·

Anthony Joshua’s £200million showdown with Tyson Fury is set to take place on either June 26 or July 3. Mike Ashley hires leading lawyers for battle over failed Newcastle United takeover

· September 14, 2020 ·

Mike Ashley and Newcastle United have instructed leading lawyers in an ongoing battle with the Premier League after they claimed the sale of the club to a Saudi-led consortium was unfairly blocked. Ashley, the billionaire owner of Sports Direct, has appointed Blackstone Chambers law firm in a bid to prove the Premier League's owners and directors test was not properly applied to the proposed buyers. Such buyers included Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), which would have received an 80% stake of the club, and Amanda Staveley's PCP Capital Partners and the Reuben brothers, of which both would have split the remaining 20%. It also represents an escalation in the war of words between Newcastle United and the Premier League over the takeover, which failed when the consortium publicly withdrew their offer in July. Last week, Newcastle United released a statement accusing the Premier League's chief executive Richard Masters of not acting "appropriately" during the … [Read more...] about Mike Ashley hires leading lawyers for battle over failed Newcastle United takeover
