ELEVEN years young and still rocking on! The CCCA proved that it is most certainly THE classic car club in southern Spain and probably among the very best in all of mainland Spain! In fact, it’s probably one of the best Clubs around, even without the mantle of classic cars about it! That was the opinion of many who came along and enjoyed the 11 year ‘Birthday’ celebrations earlier this month. The Clubnight and party at Treetops in El Chaparral was a huge success with the lovely terrace there rammed with over 130 enthusiastic and happy people. Entertainment was provided by Elena Paul and the dining experience was first class thanks to the staff of the Treetops Restaurante. Famous honorary members were in attendance including former McLaren team boss Jo Ramirez, ex-Jaguar Le Mans racing driver Win Percy and Formula 1 luminary, Pat Symonds. All thoroughly enjoyed the occasion! -- Advertisement -- With just a few days to recover, next on the event … [Read more...] about Eleven Years Young and Counting…

I used to have fun, in my old life. Or in my young life, is probably the more accurate way of describing it. Pre-drinking in someone’s house on an empty stomach because we wanted to get drunk faster or because our dresses were skin tight and we were afraid we would look bloated if we ate carbs. (Carbs were the devil in the 2000s. I believe sugar has taken its place now, Instagram is flooded with photos of misshapen ‘snickers bars’ made from chickpeas and date syrup.) And then, in college, half broken nights with pupils bleeding black, dancing and sweating and making best friends with strangers in the club toilets, the music rising inside you.Going home to that damp house in Fairview and talking and talking and talking until the sun is bleeding through the wafer-thin curtains and you still haven’t run out of words, they are loose at the tip of your tongue, desperate to be spoken, because you love these people more than you have ever loved anyone and they must … [Read more...] about ‘I used to have fun, in my old life’
Virtually every summer there are drownings in private community swimming pools across the province, and only last week, at the Aldeas de Aguamarina urbanisation in Cabo Roig, 3 year old Avery Greene tragically lost his young life in one such community. The shameful reality is that, of the 7,000 private swimming pools in urbanisations across the Alicante region, only 140 employ the services of a lifeguard. So have we really become such an uncaring society where financial considerations are put above those of a young life? It is a National Outrage that the number of attended pools equates to just one in fifty in this part of Spain, but even ther, where such a provision is made, hundreds of holidaymakers largely ignore community rules in respect of opening times, as is evidenced by many of the drownings occuring ‘out of hours’ when the pools are mostly unattended by suitably trained staff. However, unless the situation changes and Community Presidents and their owners start … [Read more...] about What is the cost of a young life?
A priest has warned those who judge others via social media or engage in paramilitary attacks that only God has the right to hold people to account as he officiated at the funeral of young Derry man Caoimhin Cassidy-Crossan. Fr. Joseph Gormley was speaking as he delivered the homily during Requiem Mass for the teenager who was found dead in a stolen car in Galliagh in the early hours of Saturday, June 1. The circumstances surrounding his death are currently under investigation. Many of Caoimhin’s relatives and friends wore T-shirts emblazoned with the messages ‘Forever Young’ and ‘RIP Toot’ alongside a picture of the young man. Addressing Caoimhin’s grieving relatives, friends and other mourners gathered at St. Mary’s Church in Creggan on Friday afternoon, Fr Gormley related how the 18-years-old had been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) at a young age and had recently tried to turn his life around.“Today … [Read more...] about ‘Caoimhin’s young life was hard’
