Yann Songo'o replaces the injured Jamie Ness for Plymouth Argyle’s crunch League One clash against play-off rivals Scunthorpe United. Ness suffered a hamstring injury in the closing stages of the come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Rotherham United at Home Park on Saturday. It has prevented him from playing against his former club, after being released by Scunthorpe last summer. Songo’o is expected to play in the holding role as part of a midfield trio of David Fox and Antoni Sarcevic. With Songo’o stepping up into the starting line-up, second-year apprentice Cameron Sangster is included among the substitutes. Argyle have only had one previous win at Glanford Park, which has been Scunthorpe’s home since 1988. That was when they beat The Iron 2-0 in August 1998 with goals from Mick Heathcote and Earl Jean. Just a few weeks ago, it looked as though Plymouth Argyle were heading into the final weeks of the season in good shape. They were winning games and playing well and manager Derek Adams had most, but not all, of his players free from injury and illness. But what we do know is that things can change very quickly in football – and so it proved at Home Park. Suddenly, Ryan Taylor injured his ankle in training on the eve of the Portsmouth match; Moses Makasi’s loan spell was ended prematurely as he underwent surgery on his injured knee, Paul Paton was hurt in the 2-0 loss at Northampton Town and on Saturday, Jamie Ness was injured in a freak collision with Aaron Taylor-Sinclair. Needless to say, Argyle’s form has suffered as a result of those injuries, yet they are still in there fighting. The Pilgrims are two points shy of the top six and head into a massive match at Scunthorpe United tonight knowing their fate could stay in their hands for teh final day clash at … [Read more...] about Does youth get a chance or is Yann Songo’o the answer for Argyle?
Yann Sauve will not be returning to Nottingham Panthers next season. The skillful defenceman enjoyed a fine year in the Elite League, but he has chosen to rejoin former club Medvescak Zagreb in the EBEL. Sauve played for the Croatian side in the 2016/17 season, icing 25 times in the KHL, before moving to Panthers last summer. "We are happy that Yann will be with us again. He is a strong, skilled and quality defender who played great for us in the KHL two seasons ago," sporting director Aaron Fox said. "He's an excellent skater, fast and has a strong and precise shot. I can freely say that we and he are excited and happy for him to return to Zagreb." Sauve scored 48 points in 71 games for Panthers as he showed his class on the blue line - and also demonstrated a knack for scoring crucial goals. He was also named the team's most valuable player. … [Read more...] about Nottingham Panthers defenceman Yann Sauve departs for former club
Former Sunderland midfielder Yann M’Vila is not ruling out a return to England after spending an ‘amazing’ year with the Black Cats. The Frenchman joined the Black Cats on loan from Rubin Kazan in August 2015, making 40 appearances on Wearside during a season of mixed fortunes. He played a key role in Sam Allardyce’s side which managed to stay in the Premier League by virtue of some superb performances late in the season, and fans were hopeful the club could secure a permanent deal for the 22-times capped midfielder. But after a frustrating summer, the on-off deal failed to materialise, and M’Vila was left at Rubin, were he was seemingly surplus to requirements. A move to his France with St Etienne followed in January this year, and while he still has a year remaining on his contract at the Ligue 1 club, he admits he does not know what the future holds. “I am very happy there and I think only about football, about being on the pitch,” the … [Read more...] about Former Sunderland favourite Yann M’Vila’s verdict on a possible return to play in England
