The new Switch and Xbox versions of Fall Guys will be out next month, as the game disappears from Steam and plans a new season pass system. It seems a long time since Fall Guys was in the headlines, as while other lockdown hits have enjoyed ongoing success nobody seems to talk about Mediatonic’s family friendly battle royale anymore. Since the game initially rose to success by being given away free with PS Plus that’s no doubt why it’s next big step is to become free-to-play for everyone, on every format – including the new Nintendo Switch and Xbox versions. There’s also going to be a new PlayStation 5 version and, since Epic Games bought Mediatonic last year, the game is being delisted from Steam – although if you’ve already bought it from Valve it’ll still work and receive updates. All this will be happening on June 21 and will also coincide with the game’s second Season 1, so this is basically a complete relaunch. Mediatonic is clearly using successful … [Read more...] about Fall Guys will be free-to-play from June – including on Switch and Xbox

Capcom Fighting Collection review – Darkstalkers Revenge
Capcom’s back with a new collection of classic arcade fighting games, this time focusing on non-Street Fighter titles like Darkstalkers. When you think of 2D fighting games from the 1990s, no doubt your mind goes immediately to Capcom. They started off the decade with the phenomenon that was Street Fighter 2 – the game that made fighting games what they are today – and they continued with not only sequels and spin-offs but a number of other fighting games that, while often similar in style, were their own thing entirely. Following up on 2018’s successful – albeit barebones – Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection comes Capcom Fighting Collection. A total of 10 games are included, the stars of the show being the entire Darkstalkers series (including previously Japanese-only entries Vampire Hunter 2 and Vampire Savior 2) and Red Earth, in its first ever release outside of the arcades. Rounding out the collection is Hyper Street Fighter 2, Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix, … [Read more...] about Capcom Fighting Collection review – Darkstalkers Revenge
Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection review – arcade perfect
Every single 2D Street Fighter coin-op is brought together in one package, but do the old fighters still have punch? Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes review - Musou on fire Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers may be the worst value video game we’ve ever come across. It was a dumbed down version of 2008’s Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix – which was originally sold on Xbox 360 for £10 – that had half its content taken out and was sold on the Nintendo Switch for a staggering £35. We assume this compilation of every pre-Street Fighter IV arcade game is meant as some form of atonement, in which case we can say that all is forgiven. Take a deep breath before you read the next sentence as this is the list of all 12 games the collection contains: Street Fighter, Street Fighter II, Street Fighter II’: Champion Edition, Street Fighter II’: Hyper Fighting, Super Street Fighter II, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Street Fighter Alpha, Street Fighter Alpha 2, … [Read more...] about Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection review – arcade perfect

Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens review – Tell that to Lego Club
The Force Awakens finally gets a video game adaptation, but does this latest Lego game manage to construct any new ideas? It’s now over a decade since the release of Lego Star Wars: The Video Game. A recreation of the three prequel movies with Lego minifigures and models, at the time it was expected to be only a minor release – a novelty that would only appeal to small children. Today it’s one of the most successful, and prolific, video game franchises in the world. But surprisingly it’s been five years since the last Lego Star Wars title, and since the other Lego movie games haven’t changed much in that time the responsibility for refreshing the formula now falls to the movie franchise that started it all… What’s also surprising is that this is the first console game to be based on The Force Awakens. Star Wars: Battlefront does feature the desert planet of Jakku, but 20 years before the events of the movie and with none of the familiar characters or vehicles. In fact, EA … [Read more...] about Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens review – Tell that to Lego Club
The Lego Movie 2 Videogame review – everything is awful
The latest Lego video game finally sees a change in the usual formula, but change is not necessarily always for the better… Bethesda is a good developer but Microsoft is making them worse - Reader’s Feature Something is rotten in the state of Denmark. For years the Lego games have been almost the only family friendly multiformat games of any quality. They’ve been better or worse depending on which property they’re based on but, generally speaking, if you want a co-op game to play with your kids, or non-gaming friends, then Lego has been almost the only option. But then toys to life and Lego Dimensions happened, and after that brief but expensive fad ended suddenly nobody wanted to pay for standalone Lego games anymore. Even when they released a good one, like 2017’s Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 , it never seemed to sell as well as before. Last year’s Lego DC Super-Villains not only fared the same but was so over-egged with features and unnecessary complications it … [Read more...] about The Lego Movie 2 Videogame review – everything is awful
Lego Worlds review – mining a new craft
Minecraft may finally have a serious rival, as Lego’s take on the same idea comes to home consoles. In a couple of weeks it’ll be the 12th anniversary of Lego Star Wars: The Video Game. What originally seemed like a trivial, low budget licensed game quickly spawned the dominant family-friendly video game series of the modern era. And although there has been evolution and refinement to the formula in those 12 years nobody would pretend there’s been anything like real change. But Lego Worlds is different. By which we mean it’s just like Minecraft. Minecraft and Lego obviously share an awful lot in common, in terms of their infinite capacity for creativity… and obsession. There’s been a range of official Lego Minecraft sets for years, but we’re still surprised to this day that it’s Microsoft that ended up buying developer Mojang instead of Lego themselves. Whether they consider that a missed opportunity we’re not sure, but Lego Worlds is very much their unofficial take on the same … [Read more...] about Lego Worlds review – mining a new craft
