General Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, compared supporters of former President Donald Trump to Nazis, according to a new book. Milley, who has been widely criticized for being “woke,” claimed that Trump was preaching “the gospel of the Führer” when he contested the results of the 2020 election and claimed that Trump had led the U.S. to the brink of its own “Reichstag moment,” a reference to an incident in 1933 that Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler used to consolidate political power in Germany. New York Magazine reported: … the general’s worries grew rapidly as the president plunged the nation into chaos following Election Day. Seven days later, Milley got a call from “an old friend” with an explicit warning that Trump and his allies were trying to “overturn the government.” Milley was confident that any attempts by Trump to hold on to power would be thwarted, because the military wouldn’t go along. “They may try, but they’re not going to fucking … [Read more...] about Gen. Starbucks billionaire and Star Wars director helped convince Lewis Hamilton to stay in F1
The blow of losing the Formula 1 championship in such contentious fashion in 2021 saw Lewis Hamilton question his future in the sport. Hamilton was on course for an eighth world title as he held a comfortable lead over arch-rival Max Verstappen going into the closing stages of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. But race director Michael Masi’s bungled handling of a late-race safety car allowed Verstappen, on much fresher tyres, to overtake the Mercedes on the final lap. Hamilton has admitted he felt “cheated” by events in the Middle East, saying in his recent interview with Vanity Fair : “I, for sure, considered whether I wanted to continue.” READ MORE: Christian Horner finally expresses sympathy for Lewis Hamilton fans after Abu Dhabi drama Hamilton disappeared off social media for months after the race, fuelling speculation he was about to walk away from the sport. However, support from close friend Mellody Hobson, the billionaire chairwoman of Starbucks, and her … [Read more...] about Starbucks billionaire and Star Wars director helped convince Lewis Hamilton to stay in F1
China ends military drills around Taiwan, vows regular patrols
The Chinese military announced an end to a week of intensive military drills around Taiwan on Wednesday but signaled its intention to continue regular patrols in the sensitive waters between the two countries. Chinese forces "successfully completed various tasks" during the naval and air force training missions around Taiwan, said Col. Shi Yi, a spokesperson for the People's Liberation Army 's Eastern Theater Command. The exercises originally scheduled from August 4 to 7 were extended twice, and Taiwan's armed forces continued to detect large military maneuvers on August 10. "Theater troops will pay close attention to changes in the situation in the Taiwan Strait, continue to train and prepare, organize regular combat readiness patrols in the Taiwan Strait and resolutely safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity," Shi said. Beijing's war games, the largest show of force in the region since the mid-1990s, began shortly after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi … [Read more...] about China ends military drills around Taiwan, vows regular patrols
Hitler’s right-hand man is inspiring Nazi rallies this week
Newsweek published this story under the headline of "A Last Relic of the Reich" on August 31, 1987. A group of neo-Nazis planned a public demonstration to commemorate the death of Rudolf Hess, Hitler's right-hand man and deputy chief of the Nazi party until he was captured by the British in 1941. In light of this news, Newsweek is republishing the story. And so the ghost of Spandau was laid to rest at last. Rudolf Hess, the last survivor of Hitler's inner circle, took his own life at 93, frail, nearly blind and totally alone in a world that for him stopped in 1941. He had long since become not so much a man as a relic of war—even of the Cold War, for his continued incarceration in Berlin, as the sole inmate of Spandau Prison, was a source of enduring dispute between the Soviet Union and the West. In death as in life, Hess appears to have taken matters into his own hands. Left briefly unattended in an outdoor cottage on the Spandau grounds, he wrapped an electrical cord around … [Read more...] about Hitler’s right-hand man is inspiring Nazi rallies this week
Why is Israel spending $800 million on a new wall?
President Donald Trump has said repeatedly he is an admirer of Israel's controversial wall building program, and the Middle Eastern country is giving him another structure to envy—Israel's army has announced construction details of a new underground wall to run along the country's border with Gaza. The $800 million barrier will stretch across the country's 40-mile frontier with the territory, measuring 19 feet high, but also delving 131 feet underground, principally to counter the threat of attack tunnels dug by Hamas , the Islamist militant group that has controlled Gaza since 2007. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) revealed details of the wall, first announced in 2014, on Wednesday. Work is scheduled to begin on the wall in October and it is expected to take two years to complete. According to The Times , Israel has built factories to produce concrete along its border, and construction workers, who will be part of the round-the-clock effort, will reportedly include east … [Read more...] about Why is Israel spending $800 million on a new wall?
Nearly 90 Retired Generals, Admirals Demand Milley, Austin Resign: Focused On ‘Wokeness’ Vs. Winning Wars | The Daily Wire
Nearly 90 retired generals and admirals wrote a letter demanding that Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) Lloyd Austin and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS) Mark Milley resign from their roles immediately over the “events surrounding the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan” that unfolded under their leadership in the Biden administration. “What should have happened upon learning of the Commander in Chief’s (President Biden’s) plan to quickly withdraw our forces and close the important power projection base Bagram, without adequate plans and forces in place to conduct the entire operation in an orderly fashion?” they wrote . “As principal military advisors to the CINC/President, the SECDEF and CJCS should have recommended against this dangerous withdrawal in the strongest possible terms.” “If they did not do everything within their authority to stop the hasty withdrawal, they should resign. Conversely, if they did do everything within their ability to persuade the … [Read more...] about Nearly 90 Retired Generals, Admirals Demand Milley, Austin Resign: Focused On ‘Wokeness’ Vs. Ukraine calls on West to close borders to all Russians
President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for all Russians to be banned from entering Western countries. The Ukrainian leader says the sanctions against Vladimir Putin’s regime are too weak. His intervention marks a significant change of tone from comments made in the early stages of the invasion, when he reached out to Kremlin critics in Russian. Now he has told The Washington Post that regardless of their political position, Russians should: ‘live in their own world until they change their philosophy’. It is unclear how many Russians oppose the war, with the Government attempting to stamp out dissent through severe repression. President Zelensky added: ‘The most important sanctions are to close the borders — because the Russians are taking away someone else’s land.’ Moscow blasted the comments yesterday, claiming ‘The irrationality of thinking in this case is off the charts’. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed the comments were seen ‘extremely … [Read more...] about Ukraine calls on West to close borders to all Russians
Objections to Alan Turing statue being erected at Cambridge University
Alan Turing ’s statue is set to be erected in Cambridge despite Historic England warning it would “harm” the character of the area. The mathematician’s alma mater of King’s College applied to erect a 12ft steel tribute to Turing designed by Sir Anthony Gormley . Historic England warned that the “eye-catching” new monument would “be at odds” with the traditional character of the college grounds, but Cambridge City Council has voted to approve the plans. The vote goes against the concerns also raised by the body’s own conservation officer, who agreed with Historic England that the vast rust-coloured artwork would compromise the “aesthetic significance” of King’s College, according to council documents. In favour of the statue, it was argued that there has been recent interest in Turing’s wartime code-breaking work and persecution for his homosexuality – which has led to a string of feature films such as the Imitation Games – and that he is a significant King’s alumnus. … [Read more...] about Objections to Alan Turing statue being erected at Cambridge University
Buenos Aires sued over ban on gender-neutral language in schools
The Buenos Aires authorities are being sued over their attempt to ban gender-neutral words in schools, in a sign that the culture war over inclusive language could be spreading to South America. Argentinian city officials last month became among the first in the world to bar teachers from addressing students as “[email protected]”, “chiqxs” or “chiques” - non-gendered words that were becoming increasingly common in place of the masculine “chicos” that is used for mixed-gender groups. But social advocacy and political groups have since taken the local government to court over the issue, arguing the ban violates basic human rights such as freedom of expression and the right to determine one’s gender and excludes people who do not identify as male or female. “The city government could not explain how the prohibition of the use of non-exclusive language in schools would not violate city and national laws,” says María Rachid, founder of the Argentinian LGBT Federation, one of the civil … [Read more...] about Buenos Aires sued over ban on gender-neutral language in schools
Join my crusade against progressive liberals, Viktor Orban urges US conservatives
Hungary’s prime minister has urged Christian conservatives in the US and Europe to unite forces and battle “progressive liberals” and “globalists” at a Right-wing political meeting in Texas. Viktor Orban said that his country was the “Lone Star State of Europe” and boasted of his tough anti-migration policies and laws against gay marriage at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Dallas. “If I am correct, Lone Star State means that independence, freedom and sovereignty are the dearest values in this part of America,” he said. “ Progressive liberals didn’t want me to be here because they knew what I would tell you – because I’m here to tell you that we should unite our forces because we Hungarians know how to defeat the enemies of freedom on the political battlefield,” he said. He added: “We must take back the institutions in Washington and in Brussels [...] we must co-ordinate the movement of our troops, because we face the same challenge. “We are … [Read more...] about Join my crusade against progressive liberals, Viktor Orban urges US conservatives
