Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible filming scrapped as crew fly home from the Middle East

· February 12, 2021 ·

MISSION Impossible’s all about pulling off the unfeasible – but shooting the film during a pandemic is a challenge too far for leading man Tom Cruise and his team. He flew the cast and crew to the Middle East for the latest run of scenes, but has been forced to end filming of the seventh instalment of the franchise after people refused to work any longer. Production staff demanded they were allowed to head back to the UK this weekend before hotel quarantine rules come into effect on Monday. Studio bosses have now had to charter a private jet to bring them home because they were up in arms about not being able to return to their families. A movie insider said: “The whole production has hit yet another issue and there have been revolts among the cast and crew. “For quite a few of them, the prospect of having to quarantine in a hotel back in the UK is a step too far and they’ve demanded to be flown home before the rules change. The studio has had to fund a jet back and the … [Read more...] about Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible filming scrapped as crew fly home from the Middle East

I want my wedding to be as cheap as possible, my ring came from lost property and I’m getting wed in a baggage unit

· March 4, 2021 ·

ANYONE who’s ever planned a wedding will know that budgets are very important - and for this bride it’s the lower the better. Cabin crew Stephanie, from Texas, is engaged to fiance Jimmy, and she will stop at nothing to make sure she gets the best price for her wedding. Stephanie, who appears on TLC’s Extreme Cheapskates, is not just tight when it comes to her wedding, with the bride-to-be living a very frugal lifestyle. She says: “My mother used to say, make sure you turn off the light before you leave the room and of course nobody pays attention to that until you start paying the bill.” But Stephanie takes it one step further, turning off her circuit breaker every time she leaves the house. Working as cabin crew, Stephanie lives off what she considers are the perks of the job. “When the passengers leave the plane I check to look for meals left behind by a pilot or a passenger,” she says. “The food is perishable items, they’re going to throw it away if I don’t … [Read more...] about I want my wedding to be as cheap as possible, my ring came from lost property and I’m getting wed in a baggage unit

Mercedes release images of Lewis Hamilton’s new F1 2021 car which Brit helped engineers build to go for another title

· March 2, 2021 ·

MERCEDES have released images of the car they hope will power Lewis Hamilton to a record eighth world title. Hamilton , who is currently tied on seven with Michael Schumacher, will be going all out in 2021 to move into a class of his own. The Brit already has the most wins (95), pole positions (98) and podium finishes (165) in F1 and can now go on to become the undisputed champ. He said: "The launch day of a new car is always a really exciting one. It's great to reveal to the world the result of everyone's hard work at the factories and to see some of my team-mates in person, which has been so rare during the past year. "I've been in touch with the engineers through the winter, keeping track of their preparations as I prepare myself for the season ahead. "The excitement has been building and building, so now I just can't wait to get out on track in the W12." The car - or to give it its full title the Mercedes-AMG F1 W12 E Performance - is an evolution of last … [Read more...] about Mercedes release images of Lewis Hamilton’s new F1 2021 car which Brit helped engineers build to go for another title

Malaria: Infections halved in children in Ivory Coast using new technology

· January 4, 2021 ·

A new type of malaria control has significantly brought down infection rates among children in the Ivory Coast in western Africa, according to new research published in The Lancet . The device , developed by Dutch researchers and trialed over two years in combination with the use of window screens and insecticide-coated b ed nets, was found to lower the incidence of malaria by around 40-50% in children aged between six months and 10 years old. "Any reduction would be great, but something as significant as 40 to 50% is substantial — particularly in high-burden countries like Cote d'Ivoire," said Jaishree Raman, a professor at the Institute of Sustainable Malaria Control at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, who was not involved in the study. Malaria — a disease transmitted from person to person by infected Anopheles mosquitoes — is still one of the world's deadliest infectious diseases, causing more deaths than all other parasitic … [Read more...] about Malaria: Infections halved in children in Ivory Coast using new technology

Alice Cooper on the prophetic School’s Out and his new album Detroit Stories

· March 5, 2021 ·

HE was born Vincent Furnier but the world knows and loves him as Alice Cooper. “The only person who calls me Vince is Keith Richards,” admits the American shock rock icon. “He’ll say, ‘Vinnie, Vinnie, how long has it been since you had a drink?’ “And I’ll reply, ‘More than 30 years’. And he goes, ‘Ah, begs the question, why???’ ” There was a time, however, when Alice was a match for the Rolling Stones rogue when it came to hellraising. Let’s go back to one Christmas Eve in the early Seventies when rabble-rousing anthems like School’s Out and Elected were delivering teenage kicks years before the punk explosion. Alice and his band of renegades were playing cavernous Madison Square Garden in New York City. It may have been bitterly cold outside but the heat was rising inside one of America’s most hallowed music venues. “At the end of the show, Santa Claus came on stage and took a big bow,” remembers the frontman who still wears trademark ghoulish black eye … [Read more...] about Alice Cooper on the prophetic School’s Out and his new album Detroit Stories
