US football authorities are to pay their men and women the same for international competitions, including in their respective World Cups. The United States Soccer Federation said on Wednesday it will create a mechanism for sharing prize money. Under the agreements, which run until 2028, US Soccer becomes the first federation in the world to award equal prize money from FIFA World Cups to both women's and men's teams. US Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone said in a statement on the federation's website: "This is a truly historic moment. These agreements have changed the game forever here in the United States and have the potential to change the game around the world." In what is being called an “equal pay” agreement between the U.S. Soccer Federation and the U.S. men’s and women’s national teams, the men’s team will soon begin subsidizing the women’s team’s bonuses with their own international prize money. The landmark agreement was reached after years litigation between U.S. Soccer and members of the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT), who claimed they were unfairly paid differently than the U.S. Men’s National Team (USMNT). The women made this claim even though each team had their own separate collective bargaining agreement about their pay structure. Every four years we are subjected to Democrats and activists whining about how the U.S. women’s soccer team isn’t paid as much as the men’s team, even though the women’s team wins their World Cup almost every year while the men’s team has never won it. Based on this limited and selective information, one might wonder why the men’s team is paid so much more. But once you learn all the other factors that go into the athlete’s pay, this “inequality” falls apart just like all the other gender “wage” gap claims. I first wrote about the issue in 2015 — the last time the Women’s World Cup took place. Grieving relatives of Payton Gendron’s victims and locals yesterday told of their devastation after the white ­supremacist’s murderous rampage left 10 people dead. The show, which was announced last year, is one of several projects being dropped by the streaming giant.
