An airline pilot who beat his estranged wife to death with a saucepan when she refused to lower the asking price of their home has been found guilty of her murder. Andrew McIntosh, 54, also punched and kicked Patricia McIntosh, 56, who died of head injuries on November 15 last year. During a seven-day trial, McIntosh claimed he "just lost control" after failing to persuade her to drop the asking price, and was in a state of numb disbelief after the killing. But the Crown claimed the 54-year-old, who was on stand-by to fly for travel giant TUI, acted in rage, anger and frustration after driving to confront his wife at their former marital home in Knightcote, Warwickshire. McIntosh, who was born in Bradford and grew up on the Isle of Wight, will be sentenced on Thursday. The Southwest Airlines pilot being lauded as a hero in a harrowing emergency landing after a passenger was partially blown out of the jet's damaged fuselage is also being hailed for her pioneering role in a career where she has been one of the few women at the controls.Tammie Jo Shults, one of the first female fighter pilots in the US Navy, was the captain and piloting the Dallas-bound Flight 1380 when it made an emergency landing on Tuesday in Philadelphia, according to her husband, Dean Shults.One of the engines on the Boeing 737 exploded while the plane was travelling 500 mph at 30,000ft with 149 people on board.Shrapnel hit the plane and passengers said they had to rescue a woman who was being blown out of a damaged window. THE hero Southwest Airlines pilot who calmly landed the plane after a deadly explosion hugged traumatised passengers after her miracle landing. Tammie Jo Shults, 56, was pictured embracing a mortified woman after her life-saving touch down following an engine blow-out which killed a woman. Passenger Jennifer Riordan was almost sucked out and later died of head injuries. But despite the terrifying emergency Shults held her nerve and successfully landed the stricken plane in Philadelphia, avoiding a far worse disaster. Moments later she emerged from the cockpit to comfort scared passengers who have thanked her for saving their lives. Ryanair outed itself as the airline with the worst gender pay gap this week, with men earning on average 72 per cent more per hour than women. The Irish carrier sits atop a pile of companies in the aviation sector each boasting chunky discrepancies between the median earnings of men and women. Its mean gender pay gap is 67 per cent. In terms of median differences, Jet2 had the second highest at 49.7 per cent, followed by Tui (47.3 per cent) and EasyJet, 45.5 per cent. British Airways’ figure was much lower, at 10 per cent, though its mean score was 35 per cent. FlyBe has a median gap of 41 per cent, while Thomas Cook Airways has a 43.9 per cent gap, and Virgin Atlantic 27.2 per cent.
