Woman rescues 5 year old
A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a five-year-old boy four months after he was severely injured in a house fire. The youngster had been fighting for his life since November 15 after suffering devastating injuries. However, he sadly died in hospital in the early hours of yesterday. The blaze at a house in Wentworth Road, Rugby is being treated as arson, police confirmed. Two other children aged eight and ten, along with a woman, were also injured in the fire. Neighbours described hearing screams before seeing the house engulfed in flames. The fire service, police and ambulance service were on the scene within minutes and rescued a woman and three children. Two people arrested on suspicion of arson are on bail until April, police said. A 21-year-old man from Rugby was arrested the same day as the incident. A 28-year-old woman from Rugby was arrested in January. A babysitter has been jailed for nine years after claiming she tried to kill her neighbour’s five-year-old daughter because she thought the child was Gollum from The Lord of the Rings. Galina Kobzeva, 69, attacked Nadya Shustova with a knife and hammer before throwing her off a third floor balcony. The badly injured child was close to death in hospital and survived by a “miracle". Pensioner Kobzeva, convicted of attempted murder, told a judge during her trial that she checked on Nadya as the girl watched TV and “suddenly saw Gollum from The Lord of the Rings” and the fictional hobbit “stared” at her “loudly laughing”. A woman who witnessed part of the incident saw Kobzeva throwing the child from the balcony at a block of flats in the Samara region of Russia - then rescued the girl from the pavement and called an ambulance. AN ENGLISH tourist was swept to her death while taking photos from rocks on a Scottish beach as her horrified companions watched on. The party - believed to be all part of a photography group visiting from England – witnessed the tragedy on Harris, in the Outer Hebrides, yesterday. A lifeboat and a rescue helicopter were scrambled to Nisabost beach in a bid to save the 50-year-old woman at around 8am. She was recovered from the water by the chopper and taken to the Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway, but cops later confirmed she had died. The mum of missing Claudia Lawrence would like to meet Libby Squire’s parents after becoming upset over the "similar" disappearance of their daughter. Joan Lawrence, 75, says the case of Libby, a missing 21-year-old living in Hull, brought back memories of her own daughter, who vanished ten years ago today, Monday, March 18 . Libby's parents, Lisa and Russ, have spoken of their "utter heartbreak and despair" at their daughter going missing, and Mrs Lawrence wants the pair to get in touch with her so she can comfort them. Her appeal came as police investigating Miss Lawrence’s disappearance said witnesses are "withholding vital information" that could lead to a breakthrough, adding she was probably attacked by someone she knew.
