AT least 13 people have been shot dead and 29 are injured after a wave of gun violence rocked the US over the July 4 weekend. Two men, 17 and 18, were gunned down while another was wounded after a shooting erupted at a pool party in Texas on July 1. A series of shootings were reported in Chicago over the Independence Day weekend, leaving at least eight people dead. Medics pronounced a man, 26, dead after he was shot in the arm and head just after 5pm on Friday. Hours later, cops found a woman, 24, with gunshot wounds in her torso and she was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead, NBC Chicago reports. A 14-year-old boy has been arrested after a woman was raped in a nightclub toilet – with security staff accused of leaving the victim inside a cubicle with her attacker. It’s believed the woman and her friends were approached by a teenager offering to sell them drugs at the Bloom club in Manchester in the early hours of Wednesday morning. He entered the male toilets with her and allegedly sexually assaulted her at around 4.15am. A member of security staff went into the toilets and knocked on the cubicle door at one point, a Manchester City Council licensing hearing was told on Friday. He is said to have realised there were two people inside, but allowed them to remain in there together and left. A mum was wrongly ordered to leave a swimming pool by a lifeguard for breastfeeding her baby. Sarah Lappin, 31, started breastfeeding her son Kalel at the side of the pool following a baby and toddler session. But she was left feeling ‘humiliated’ after the lifeguard told her to feed her child somewhere else – despite it being legal to breastfeed in public places. Bosses at Rhyl Leisure Centre in Rhyl, North Wales, have now issued an apology to the mum, saying they will review their training. Two people have been arrested after a drunken passenger on board a flight to Spain allegedly punched a security guard. According to an eyewitness’ account, a man and a woman had been waiting at Bristol Airport to get on board a 17.45 easyJet flight to Alicante when the altercation took place. The pair had been stopped from boarding the plane because they were "intoxicated", police have said, when the man reportedly began shouting at the airline staff at the gate. Airport security and other passengers had come over to de-escalate the situation, when the man proceeded to punch one of the security guards in the face. Steve Rich, who witnessed the altercation, told Bristol Live : "All of a sudden the passenger just threw a fist over one of the guy's shoulders, and just caught the security guard on the mouth." Army veteran Robert Millar, 34, was earlier convicted of the 2020 rape in Elgin as well as assault and two charges of threatening or abusive behaviour. At the High Court in Edinburgh, Sheriff Norman Mcfadyen told Millar he was guilty of a number of serious offences. Millar was sentenced to 50 months in prison and will then be under supervision for a further three years. He attacked his victim at an address in Elgin in June 2020 when he seized her by the neck before subjecting her to a repeated rape ordeal. Millar assaulted her again in September that year. The judge described the rape offence as "plainly the most serious", but said the other offences were also significant.
