New pictures reveal the destruction caused when a Russian missile struck a busy Ukrainian shopping centre. More than 1,000 people were going about their business in the Amstor mall in the centre of Kremenchuk, a city far from the frontline, when the rocket hit on Monday. At least 18 people were killed in the strike and 59 injured as shrapnel tore through shop windows and the heat of the blast turned the aisles to a crisp. Many managed to escape but the death toll is expected to keep rising as rescuers dig through the rubble. CCTV showed people who were outside the complex diving into a nearby lake as debris rained down around them. Emergency workers were seen painstakingly sifting through huge piles of rubble on Monday. A terrified mum and her six-year-old daughter were left trapped in a flat during a 'deliberate' fire . Fahima said her eyes started 'burning' as black smoke poured into her home in Edinburgh, Scotland, today. She and her daughter were unable to flee the property as the fire raged at the bottom of their stairwell, EdinburghLive reports. Fortunately firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze before the flames reached her door. Although none of the families trapped inside the building were injured, it was still a frightening ordeal. Fahima rang the fire brigade when she heard the alarms go off in the property's shared stairwell.
