Last night a rare blood moon was visible in some parts of Britain - but it came with bizarre warnings that the world is going to end. Here in Merseyside it was cloudy for most of the night but a few doomsday preachers were certain that it would be the end of days. The blood moon prophecy purports to reveal hidden messages in the Christian Bible about the end times approaching. Thankfully the theory was dismissed by astronomers and other experts as nonsense. But other theories are slightly more likely - ranging from an asteroid collision to the Sun swallowing our planet. Our colleagues at the Mirror have taken a look at some of these theories, and whether any of them are at risk of coming true. Asteroid collision Over the years, the Earth has been subject to a number of impacts by comets and asteroids - although big hits are thankfully rare. For example, the last catastrophic impact happened 65 million years ago, when an asteroid crashed to Earth, wiping out the dinosaurs. But, … [Read more...] about When will the world end? DEAL making Donald Trump has trumpeted his agreement with Kim Jong-un as paving the way for “complete denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula”. But some observers doubt ultra-secretive North Korea will be prepared to allow foreigners - especially Americans - inside its top-secret plants - let alone strip it of the nuclear weapons that have transformed it into a world power. If North Korea does want it agreed to at the Singapore summit, the United States would dispatch nuclear experts because crucially at the moment it's just an agreement between two countries. The US would then dispose of the weapons to be make sure the job is done and to avoid Kim's engineers accidentally setting them off. Trump’s hawkish national security adviser John Bolt says he wants this done at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee. In any event, US nuclear experts would have to enter North Korea and physically remove the nukes and ship them across the Pacific Ocean … [Read more...] about How will Kim Jong-un destroy his nukes… and will the world really know for sure?
PUBLISHED: 12:00 06 June 2018 | UPDATED: 12:00 06 June 2018 Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup after losing to Sweden in a two-legged play-off for the right to a place in Russia this summer. Almost… This year’s World Cup is missing two of the more familiar names, after Italy and the Netherlands failed to qualify. Both are dripping in World Cup history, particularly Italy: a World Cup finals without them was surely incomprehensible, but the four-time winners will be staying at home. Ditto the Orange Army: they may not have won the golden trophy, but they have left their mark, perhaps none more so than in 2010 where they reached the final and played out a battle royale against Spain, only to lose 1-0 after extra-time. It was a bloodbath, quite unlike the Holland side which had brought us Cruyff, Bergkamp, Van Basten, … [Read more...] about Will the World Cup miss Italy and the Netherlands?
Trump's decision flies in the face of ten years of diplomacy and risks fuelling instability in the Middle East. It also threatens foreign trade in Iran worth billions of dollars. “It is important that all concerns regarding the implementation of the plan be addressed through the mechanisms established in the JCPOA,” said Antonio Gutteres, the UN Secretary General. Iran’s regional position today is much greater than it was a decade ago, and the United States government is much more isolated than it was a few years ago. US quits Iran nuke deal 09/05/2018 - by Jan van der Made Listen “Issues not directly related to the JCPOA should be addressed without prejudice to preserving the agreement and its accomplishments. The Secretary General calls on other JCPOA participants to abide fully by their respective commitments under the JCPOA, and all other member states to support this agreement,” he says. “A BIT of consideration for humanity goes a long way,” says Frank Turner when explaining the title of his new album Be More Kind. A couple of years ago the British singer and songwriter had been reading a collection of poetry by Australian writer and poet Clive James when one line made him stop and sit up. The poem was called Leçons Des Ténèbres and the line was, “I should have been more kind. It is my fate. To find this out, but find it out too late.” Turner says: “It really made me think and start with a new direction for my record. “Clive James is not the only person who has made that comment. (American writer) Kurt Vonnegut also said something similar. There are a lot of people who have said it. It tends to be people who are near the end of their life. It therefore comes with a lot of weight and wisdom attached to it as far as I am concerned. “Today it’s so tempting for everybody to get angry as your first response. … [Read more...] about Frank Turner talks Trump, Twitter, leaving his comfort zone and locating his missus when the world ends
