Thousands of parents across the country can get support to help subsidise their child's uniform costs as schools reopen across England today. The School Uniform Grant offers qualifying households as much as £150 per child to help with the expenses associated with having a young person in full time education. It's part of the Education Act 1980 and is offered by the Government to help families on low incomes manage their budgets. It comes as figures show 12.5million pieces of uniform will go into landfill today as parents realise their little ones have shot up since lockdowns began. "It costs a fortune," says mum-of-two Kerri, 32. "I've got two children in primary school and even the cheapest supermarket uniform adds up when you need to buy a few pairs of trousers, a few polo shirts, a few jumpers - they’re filthy after one day, so you need plenty in the wardrobe." The Chancellor may have frozen fuel duty for the tenth year running, but drivers face a raft of new changes from April, when the new tax year comes into force. Road tax is rising in line with inflation while local clean air zone charges - which currently only exist in the capital - are set to be rolled out across major UK cities as the crackdown against pollution continues. Elsewhere, proposals are being tabled for a Greater London charge, which would cost drivers £3.50 a day to enter the outer boroughs. The billionaire ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has married a science teacher. MacKenzie Scott, who is the 22nd richest person in the world, has tied the knot with Seattle teacher Dan Jewett. The marriage was mentioned in a letter to The Giving Pledge, an organisation which encourages ultra-rich people to give away their billions. "Dan is such a great guy, and I am happy and excited for the both of them," Bezos said in a statement. Jewett said he would be signing on to Scott's commitment to give away most of her wealth. Since Scott, 50, split from the Amazon founder after 25 years of marriage in 2019 and became worth $53billion (£38billion) according to Forbes, she has set about donating. MILLIONS of self-employed Brits will be given up to £7,500 thanks to the fourth self-employment grant. Chancellor Rishi Sunak confirmed further details about the scheme as part of his Budget including who is eligible. The fourth grant will cover lost earnings through February, March and April as a result of coronavirus. Eligible self-employed workers who have lost income due to the virus will be able to claim 80% of their earnings each month, up to a cap of £2,500. The Chancellor also confirmed that a fifth and final grant will be available covering lost income for June, July and August. This value of this grant will be determined by a turnover test, Like the previous payouts, the grants will be part of the self-employment income support scheme (SEISS).
