Joe Craddock’s men secured an emphatic 10-wicket win in the Essex League Division Two with both their openers scoring hundreds chasing down 233. Good bowling efforts from Bradley Copper (4-24) and Jake McMullen (3-46) helped restrict the hosts to 232-9 off 50 overs at Garon Park. It proved light work for the South Woodford openers as Henry Blackwell scored 109 not out to hit consecutive hundreds while Copper top scored with an unbeaten 113 to get the visitors home in the 40th over. WHEN Ashley Argent’s alcohol addition was as its worst, he was drinking up to 20 cans of lager a day. He did not realise he had a problem but, for his family, the signs were obvious. In September he underwent a detox in hospital, and was in a psychiatric ward for his addiction. Now, he is about to finish a newly launched drug and alcohol project, during which he had the pleasure of sitting next to royalty. Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, attended Essex County Council’s Clouds in the Community project. She was at charity Action on Addiction’s new treatment centre in Wickford, where Ashley has been for the past seven weeks. Dogs Trust Basildon Rehoming Centre is playing host to seven Lurchers. The centre currently has lots of leggy Lurchers looking for homes and hopes that they will be lucky in love and find their ‘paw’fect new owners. Dogs Trust Basildon Rehoming Centre Manager Lisa Cooper said: “It’s an unhappy coincidence that we have 7 Lurchers needing homes. "We tend to see all shapes, sizes and breeds coming through our doors. “Lurchers have the most wonderful temperaments and really thrive when in the right home. "Often the public perception of the breed, that they require loads of exercise, is completely inaccurate. The truth is they are docile, often couch potatoes!
