But a midwife has shared her wisdom with BabyCentre UK on why you shouldn't shave or wax before giving birth - and there's a very good reason for it. Dr Cate Bell, a practising midwife in Sussex and a hypnobirthing practitioner, said: "Our current advice is that you don't shave or wax your pubic area just prior to giving birth "This increases your risk of an infection especially if you have an operative procedure like a Caesarean section". LISTEN up, ladies, regularly shaving your pubic hair leaves you three times more likely to get a nasty infection. In fact, so does using any hygiene product down there - think douches, feminine wash and intimate wipes. Canadian experts surveyed more than 1,400 women on their vaginal health and hygiene practices and found that intimate products do more harm than good to your lady garden. The most commonly used products included anti-itch creams, moisturisers, lubricants and feminine wipes. Researchers also looked at how waxing and shaving pubic hair, especially when shaving foam is involved, affected women's health. "Participants who reported use of any vaginal/genital health and hygiene product(s) had approximately three times higher odds of reporting any adverse health condition," the report, published in the journal BMC Women's Health, said. A MUM has hit back at strangers who suggested she was “too old” to breastfeed. Stefania Giraldi, 44, overheard two strangers who were suggesting that 40-something mothers like her shouldn't breastfeed because of their age. Stefania then took to the Facebook page of her blog, Mama's Word, to reveal how she responded.
