Darts majors could leave UK and World Series replaced as Barry Hearn sets out PDC plan

August 9, 2022 by www.dailystar.co.uk

Barry Hearn says it is inevitable that some of the major tournaments in the darts calendar will move away from the UK in the future as the PDC’s global expansion of the sport continues. The bulk of the majors take place in England, including the World Grand Prix which has recently moved to Leicester, first due to the pandemic and then because its traditional venue, Dublin’s Citywest Convention Centre, is housing Ukrainian refugees. The PDC have ambitious plans for the sport, which is looking to gain a foothold in America and held the US Darts Masters at New York’s Madison Square Garden as part of the World Series in June. The objective of the invitational World Series is to grow the game worldwide, with its next three events taking place in Australia and New Zealand this month. SHAPIRO: Debunking The Myth Of ‘Criminal Justice Reform’ | The Daily Wire

August 9, 2022 by www.dailywire.com

You’ve heard people on the Left say that the biggest problem in the criminal justice system in America is mass incarceration. That we have sentences that are too long. That we have sentences that are disparate. That too many people are in jail. That the police are cracking down on black and brown Americans and throwing them in jail for no reason at all, devastating inner cities. In 2020, members of both political parties gravitated toward a catch phrase encapsulating many of these ideas: Criminal justice reform. As Politico noted in April of that year, “Criminal justice reform is finally having a moment in US politics. Until recent years, candidates usually competed to look tough on crime and paint their opponents as soft. But 2020 is different.” 2020 was the year of Black Lives Matter. It was the year of Defund The Police. It was the year of ending the supposed school-to-prison pipeline. It was the year of George Floyd and Ava Duverney and Kamala Harris. It was also … [Read more...] about SHAPIRO: Debunking The Myth Of ‘Criminal Justice Reform’ | The Daily Wire

Published 20 hours ago Share close Share page Copy link About sharing When the Taliban took power in Afghanistan last August, the lives of many residents were transformed. Over the past year, tens of thousands of Afghans have been evacuated out of the country, most girls' secondary schools have been ordered to close and poverty is rising. Scientists propose rewilding the American West by reintroducing grey wolves and beavers

August 9, 2022 by news.sky.com

In the face of the growing threats posed to ecosystems by climate change, scientists in the US have put forward an "ultra ambitious" proposal to rewild parts of the American West by reintroducing wolves and beavers. Their plan follows President Joe Biden signing an executive order for his America the Beautiful policy that involves a conservation effort to save 30% of water and land in the US by 2030. The administration's plan is to address "a catastrophic extinction crisis that threatens the biodiversity of our planet and the health of the natural systems that supply our food, water, and other resources". It comes as NASA satellite images have revealed the impact on the largest reservoir of water in the US, Lake Mead , of the most severe drought in decades. In a journal article published in BioScience, titled Rewilding the American West , 20 scientists propose rewilding large reserve areas owned by the US federal government to address these concerns. … [Read more...] about Scientists propose rewilding the American West by reintroducing grey wolves and beavers

Donald Trump and the Mar-a-Lago FBI raid—What we do know, what we don’t

August 9, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

America is reeling in shock this week after former President Donald Trump 's Florida residence, Mar-a-Lago, was raided by the FBI . It is understood to be part of an ongoing investigation into the potentially unlawful removal and destruction of classified White House records after Trump left office in January 2021. In a statement made via his Truth Social app, Trump claimed the property was " under siege " and that the raid was "unannounced," with many of his supporters arriving at the property to protest the move. While there may be very strong grounds for the investigation, little to no formal information has been shared by the Department of Justice or the FBI, with social media abuzz with conjecture . Claims range from "deep state" conspiracy theories to the possibility that Trump may no longer be able to run for office in 2024 . To help filter the noise, Newsweek has examined the speculation and analysis to try to accurately determine what, at this stage, … [Read more...] about Donald Trump and the Mar-a-Lago FBI raid—What we do know, what we don’t

Biden formalizes U.S. support for Finland and Sweden joining NATO

August 9, 2022 by www.cbsnews.com

Washington — President Biden formally welcomed Finland and Sweden joining the NATO alliance Tuesday as he signed the instruments of ratification that delivered the U.S.'s formal backing of the Nordic nations entering the mutual defense pact, part of a reshaping of the European security posture after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. "In seeking to join NATO, Finland and Sweden are making a sacred commitment that an attack against one is an attack against all," Mr. Biden said at the signing as he called the partnership the "indispensable alliance." The U.S. became the 23rd ally to approve NATO membership for the two countries. The president said he spoke with the heads of both nations before signing the ratification and urged the remaining NATO members to finish their own ratification process "as quickly as possible." The Senate last week approved the two, once-neutral nations joining the alliance in a rare 95-1 vote that Biden said shows the world that "the United States of … [Read more...] about Biden formalizes U.S. support for Finland and Sweden joining NATO

Ford’s electric pickup truck will now cost at least $46,974

August 9, 2022 by www.cbsnews.com

Ford Motor has increased the price of its electric pickup truck by thousands of dollars "due to significant material cost increases and other factors," the Michigan automaker said Tuesday. The basic model for the F-150 Lightning, called the Lightning Pro, will now start at $46,974, up nearly $7,000 from its $39,974 price tag earlier this year. The truck's most expensive model, the Platinum Extended Range, will cost $96,874, up by $6,000. Ford's price hikes come on the same day as President Biden's signing of new legislation designed to make it easier for automakers to get the semiconductors needed to manufacture new vehicles. The Chips and Science Act provides more than $200 billion to boost domestic production of the computer chips, White House officials said . Even though semiconductor shortages have weighed on the production of new vehicles, Ford said its price hikes were due to battery costs. "The vast majority of this price adjustment relates to battery material … [Read more...] about Ford’s electric pickup truck will now cost at least $46,974
