Millions of people have been slapped with a hosepipe ban in parts of the UK as the dry weather shows no signs of abating. United Utilities has imposed a temporary barring of using hosepipes for the people it supplies to the north west of the country after reporting low reservoir levels and limited rain throughout the rest of July. The ban is expected to affect millions of people when it comes in on August 5, with a spokesman for the firm saying it would "safeguard essential supplies". But with Northern Ireland also under a ban, will Bristol follow suit? And what will it mean if a ban is imposed? And what kind of trouble can you expect to get in if you break it? Is Bristol under or getting a hosepipe ban? In a word, no. And Bristol Water, which supplies the city and the surrounding area, is confident this won't be happening anytime soon. A spokeswoman for the utility company said they had been monitoring their reservoir levels and said they were in a "good" position. "We are not … [Read more...] about Will Bristol be added to the hosepipe ban hitting parts of the UK?
0 Comments Alex Kane: Arlene Foster's tin-eared response to the abortion referendum is further proof of the distance she still has to travel to sell a truly inclusive unionism BelfastTelegraph.co.uk Arlene Foster chose a bold title for her speech to the Policy Exchange conference in London last week: An Awkward Relationship? Ulster Unionism and the rest of the United Kingdom. It was a bold title for what was, in parts, a bold speech. Had she avoided the cheap jibe at nationalism ("Citizenship and rights are essentially unionist issues. They are issues we should set out to reclaim. Nationalism is, by its nature, narrow and exclusive."), the genuinely interesting parts of the speech wouldn't have been washed away by the inevitable reaction to one line. https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/opinion/news-analysis/alex-kane-arlene-fosters-tineared-response-to-the-abortion-referendum-is-further-proof-of-the-distance-she-still-has-to-travel-to-sell-a-truly-inclusive-unionism-36958254.html … [Read more...] about Alex Kane: Arlene Foster’s tin-eared response to the abortion referendum is further proof of the distance she still has to travel to sell a truly inclusive unionism

JEREMY Corbyn sparked uproar last night after admitting a Government under his watch wouldn’t campaign for Northern Ireland to stay part of the UK. The Labour leader insisted Britain should remain neutral over an Irish border poll in an interview on his first visit to the province as party boss. Last night DUP MP Ian Paisley Jnr branded him a “destabilising” influence. He said: “He clearly doesn’t care about the United Kingdom. If he did he would fight to keep it together”. Mr Corbyn was asked by the BBC how a Corbyn government would handle a border poll campaign if it happened on his watch. He said: “It’s within the terms of the Good Friday Agreement that such a poll could be held if there was a willingness to do so, at that point you don’t stand in its way, but it is within the terms of the Good Friday Agreement and I think the UK government should be neutral in that respect.” It followed accusations he had snubbed the … [Read more...] about Jeremy Corbyn sparks uproar by revealing a Labour Government would not campaign for Northern Ireland to stay in the UK
