Amazon driver ‘finds bags and bottles of pee in van’ as workers have no time to stop

April 28, 2022 by www.mirror.co.uk

A delivery driver working for Amazon says he often finds plastic bottles and bags full of urine in his van as others on their rounds have no time to stop for the loo. The driver, who works for one of the delivery giant’s partners called AM Logistics, describes working conditions as “horrendous” because of the pressure on completing rounds. Workers are self-employed independent contractors but the source, who asked not to be named, revealed many feel trapped as they lack the experience to work elsewhere. Such are the demands many do not have time for toilet breaks and have to go in their vans in anything which comes to hand. The driver told Wales Online : “At the beginning, it was okay because it was summertime but it's getting worse and worse because they are putting so much onto us. The unnamed driver described the working conditions as 'horrendous' (stock image) ( Image: Bloomberg via Getty Images) “The quantity, the stops, the amount of parcels, and the … [Read more...] about Amazon driver ‘finds bags and bottles of pee in van’ as workers have no time to stop

Cheeky toddler orders 31 McDonald’s cheeseburgers by grabbing mum’s phone

May 19, 2022 by www.dailystar.co.uk

A two-year-old boy caused some major chaos when he grabbed his mum's phone and accidentally ordered himself 31 McDonald's cheeseburgers. The crafty toddler was somehow able to open a food delivery app – and shortly after, a delivery driver was at the door with a stack of burgers. Kelsey Golden, from Texas, USA, was left baffled by the mix up but soon realised what happened. She even agreed to pay the £50 ($61) bill, as well as a generous £12 ($16) tip. Luckily Kelsey saw the funny side and shared a post on social media showing her son next to a mountain of cheeseburgers – offering them away to her followers for free. Taking to Instagram, Kelsey wrote: "I have 31 free cheeseburgers from McDonald’s if anyone is interested – apparently my two-year-old knows how to order DoorDash". She said she had been using her computer when her son grabbed her phone, but she let him have it. The mum assumed he would play with the camera – but the cheeky tot managed to do a lot more … [Read more...] about Cheeky toddler orders 31 McDonald’s cheeseburgers by grabbing mum’s phone

Fernando Alonso accuses Formula One chiefs of ‘incompetence’ with FIA role at risk

May 20, 2022 by www.dailystar.co.uk

Two-time Formula On e world champion Fernando Alonso has slammed the FIA and accused this season's race directors as 'incompetent' following a penalty issued in Miami. The Alpine driver was given a five-second time penalty at the end of the race for gaining an advantage off the track, which dropped him out of the top-ten and cost him a points finish. Alonso has been left furious with the incident and has not held back with his comments, which are only a small part of F1 's ongoing frustration with the FIA. Alonso told the BBC : "We believe it was very unfair and incompetence from the stewards. They were not very professional. I missed one corner and gave back the time. They saw the pink colour [for fastest] on the next sector and took it without asking for proof. "We arrived back with the proofs and they were packing up, not even in the room. We showed them in the data and they found themselves with the hands tied because they had already issued the penalty. It was very … [Read more...] about Fernando Alonso accuses Formula One chiefs of ‘incompetence’ with FIA role at risk

The media and the megachurch

RNZ The Detail: Journalist David Farrier talks about his reporting on serious allegations of emotional and physical abuse at one of the country’s biggest megachurches: Arise. It was early May and Pastor Peter Mortlock was preaching to the converted. There had been trials and tribulations, highs and lows, but Mortlock had much to be pleased about. He founded Bays Christian Fellowship on Auckland’s North Shore in July 1982 and watched it grow and grow. In the early 2000s, the church, now known as City Impact, built a large facility complete with a state-of-the-art 2100-seat auditorium. Along with 10 campuses in New Zealand, there are 48 mission campuses in India, plus others in the Philippines, Mexico and Tonga. On this particular Sunday, nearly 40 years after the start of the City Impact story, Mortlock had good news and bad news. LOCALIZE IT: Ideas for local coverage of stock market slump

May 19, 2022 by www.independent.co.uk

EDITORS/NEWS DIRECTORS: The stock market’s slump this year has continued to gain momentum, despite volatile swings that have sometimes included rallies that fizzled within hours. The S&P 500, Wall Street’s main benchmark of health, ended 2021 with a total return of nearly 30%. It then set a record high on Jan. 3 but has fallen about 18% since. A 20% decline from the high would put the index in a bear market — it came uncomfortably close on May 12 before staging a rally. The Nasdaq composite, which is heavily weighted with technology stocks, is already in a bear market, down about 27% so far this year, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average is off about 13%. The steep declines mean Americans who invested in the stock market, whether on their own or through a work sponsored retirement account, have likely seen the value of their stock portfolios shrink quite a bit. Floyd Mayweather vs Don Moore back ON in Abu Dhabi as last-minute change is confirmed with Dubai helipad bout scrapped

May 20, 2022 by www.thesun.co.uk

FLOYD MAYWEATHER and Don Moore are set to fight at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi after their helipad fight in Dubai was scrapped. The former sparring partners were due to share the ring last weekend atop the Burj Al Arab hotel, 700ft above sea level. But the death of 73-year-old UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan forced the entire event to be called off. The UAE’s ministry of presidential affairs had announced a 40-day period of mourning and a three-day suspension of work in all ministries. It left organisers scrambling to find a new date after the ring was put up only hours before the cancellation. Mayweather, 45, went on to announce that his comeback fight faced only a seven-day delay and would take place this Saturday, May 21.
