Why anti vaccine is dangerous
The Johnson & Johnson vaccine effectively prevents severe coronavirus cases , the United States' top drug regulator said on Wednesday. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announcement paves the way for an emergency use authorization for the single-shot vaccine, which an independent committee is set to discuss. "The vaccine was effective in preventing COVID-19 using a less restrictive definition of the disease and for more severe disease, including COVID-19 requiring medical intervention, considering all cases starting 14 days after vaccination," the FDA document said. J&J said last month that its vaccine was 66% effective in preventing COVID-19 moderate to severe infections, including the variants detected in South Africa and Brazil. The one-shot jab could become the third vaccine the FDA approves as the US battles the pandemic that killed more than 500,000 of its residents. England's deputy chief medical officer Professor Jonathan Van-Tam has appeared on Sky News to answer some questions from the public on the coronavirus crisis. He shared his perspective on the public's queries and concerns on topics including the vaccine rollout, vaccine hesitancy and lifting the lockdown. Below are some of the key things from the Q&A, followed by a short analysis from science correspondent Thomas Moore , who offers his insight on each answer. 1. Since we hit the first 15 million jabs target there has been a drop-off in the daily vaccination numbers. Why? "That's really very simple to explain. There are always going to be supply fluctuations. These are new vaccines and by and large the manufacturers have never made them or anything like them before," Professor Van-Tam said. THE CORONAVIRUS vaccine rollout is in full swing and so far over 6.5 million people have received a jab. Some of the most vulnerable people in society have now had vaccines from either Pfizer/BioNTech or Oxford/AstraZeneca. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said that the target is to give the first dose of the vaccine to 15 million people in the four-key groups by mid-February. Health Secretary Matt Hancock last night said that over 70 per cent of the over 80s had now been vaccinated - meaning that the country is a step closer to protecting those who are most vulnerable to infection. Mass vaccination centres across the country have opened and GP surgeries along with pharmacies will also be giving out the jab. It is hoped more than 700 GP surgeries across the UK could be delivering the Oxford jab , which can be stored at fridge temperatures. How will I be contacted to get the Covid vaccine?
