Couple launch first restaurant venture after surviving lockdown with meal kits and cook-a-longs
The pandemic has been difficult for the hospitality sector, but one duo has defied the odds and launched their first restaurant partnership – after an incredibly challenging year. Milly Foley and John O’Connor are not your average couple – they are also business partners who met while they were living in London . After both working in the capital’s nightlife scene – Milly managing restaurants and nightclubs and John as a professional chef – the pair decided to move to Windsor after they welcomed a baby son, Salvador, in 2016. However, they always had big dreams of putting their respective hospitality experience to good use and, one day, opening their very own restaurant. As part of their grand plan to get things moving, the couple bought a food truck shortly before their move to Windsor – and their business, Test Kitchen , was born. During the spring and summer months from 2017 to early 2020, Milly and John would run the food truck – with all the ingredients … [Read more...] about Couple launch first restaurant venture after surviving lockdown with meal kits and cook-a-longs
Can you make a theme park trip luxury? We go to Fairmont Windsor Park to find out
It might be hard to believe but we might have found the secret formula to getting over a hot, sweaty day with the kids at a theme park. Fairmont Windsor Park has launched a Legoland package and while kids’ days out and luxury don’t often go hand-in-hand, we thought we would give it a try to see if it’s worth the hype. We can confirm, yes it was. Parents will know that a day out at a theme park needs some psyching up, not only is it mentally taxing but also physically – especially if your little one is too young to ditch the buggy but wants their own independence to march around. Legoland is a wonderland for children of all ages. It was busy, with some rides up to 60 minutes long, meaning they were quickly ruled out as my two-year-old does not have the patience to wait that long so I would definitely advise on getting an upgrade on the tickets to fast track. Racking up the steps, you find yourself in awe of the majestical sculptures built out of Lego which was totally … [Read more...] about Can you make a theme park trip luxury? Dafydd Wigley: Welsh independence less likely if Scotland stays
By James Williams Published 32 minutes ago Share close Share page Copy link About sharing An independent Wales is "less likely" to come about if Scotland does not vote to leave the UK first, a former Plaid Cymru leader has said. Lord Dafydd Wigley said if Scotland again voted "no" to independence, there would be a "greater focus" on a redesigned United Kingdom. He was speaking to the BBC Walescast podcast in the first of a series of interviews with Welsh politicians. The Scottish government wants to hold a second independence referendum in 2023. But UK government ministers are opposed to the vote . Lord Wigley served as MP for Caernarfon from 1974 up to 2001, and was the constituency's assembly member from the opening of the institution until 2003. He led Plaid Cymru twice, in the early 1980s and from 1991 to 2000. He will retire soon from the House of Lords, … [Read more...] about Dafydd Wigley: Welsh independence less likely if Scotland stays
‘One person turned up to watch my Fringe show’
By Debbie Jackson Published 1 day ago Share close Share page Copy link About sharing Related Topics Edinburgh Festival Fringe A Scottish comedian who went ahead with his Fringe show despite having just one person in the audience has become a festival legend. Robin Grainger was feeling confident when he walked into his opening show in Edinburgh on Friday. The gig marked his return to the Fringe after the pandemic - but it was not the comeback he imagined. However, his decision to carry on sparked a chain of events that has seen ticket sales soar for subsequent shows. World's biggest arts festival opens in Edinburgh Royal Military Tattoo back with a bang Robin, from Portsoy in Aberdeenshire, told BBC Scotland: "I had been busy doing guest spots, exit flyering, the things you do during the day at the Fringe, and hadn't checked ticket sales. Being Brenda
Until a few years ago, the name David Reimer meant little to those outside his immediate circle, and by the time he killed himself last Tuesday in unknown circumstances in his hometown of Winnipeg, it was already slipping back towards obscurity - a name belonging to nobody more remarkable than a local odd-job man, a 38-year-old former slaughterhouse worker who was separated from his wife, and enjoyed shopping at flea markets and tinkering with his car. In fact, to anyone taking an interest in the development of psychology in the 1970s and 1980s, Reimer's life story would have long been infamous, but also pseudonymous. Going by the name "John", and subsequently "Joan", David Reimer had been an unwitting guinea-pig - along with his identical twin brother Brian - in a medical experiment at first celebrated, then notorious. Masterminded by a prominent Baltimore physician, John Money, it was an attempt to settle, once and for all, the fraught nature-versus-nurture debate: to prove that … [Read more...] about Being Brenda
