In the very early days of COVID-19, even before the worldwide spread had prompted its classification as a “pandemic,” one group of researchers put out a devastating prediction of what they said was about to happen. “One critical report, published on March 16, 2020, received international attention when it predicted 2,200,000 deaths in the USA and 510,000 deaths in the UK without some kind of coordinated pandemic response. This information became foundational in decisions to implement physical distancing and adherence to other public health measures because it established the upper boundary for any worst-case scenarios,” Lancet reported at the time. The report came from the Imperial College London and prompted much action in the U.S., including, as cited above, the distancing that has become de rigueur, but also widespread lockdowns and masks mandates. That prediction never happened. The U.S. last week marked a grim milestone — 1 million Americans dead either from or “with” … [Read more...] about CURL: Biden’s Craven Fear-Mongering Over COVID-19 Is All About Money | The Daily Wire

Covid-19: WHO says Omicron makes China’s ‘zero-Covid’ policy unsustainable
The head of the World Health Organisation said China’s extreme approach to containing the coronavirus is unsustainable because of the highly infectious nature of the Omicron variant, but that it’s up to every country to decide what policy to pursue. At a media briefing on Tuesday (NZT Wednesday), WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus described China’s “zero-Covid” strategy as “not sustainable” after similar remarks last week drew sharp criticism from China . “We know the virus better and we have better tools, including vaccines, so that’s why the handling of the virus should actually be different from what we used to do at the start of the pandemic,” Tedros said. He added that the virus had changed significantly since it was first identified in Wuhan in late 2019, when China largely stopped its spread with lockdowns. Tedros said the WHO had repeatedly advised Chinese officials about their recommended Covid containment strategies, but that “regarding their choice … [Read more...] about Covid-19: WHO says Omicron makes China’s ‘zero-Covid’ policy unsustainable

Michigan Covid guidelines explained as Governor Whitmer announces new restrictions
Michigan faces three weeks of further restrictions in an effort to curb the spread of coronavirus as the state is said to be "entering the most challenging phase of the pandemic thus far." Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) announced the new COVID rules and extra guidelines on Sunday, as cases continue to rise across the state. As of November 13, Michigan had recorded a total of 244,741 confirmed cases, and 7,929 deaths attributable to COVID-19, according to state data. In late March, the number of new cases each day peaked at nearly 2,000. Following a statewide stay-at-home order, which ran from late March until early June, daily case counts were driven down to fewer than 200 by mid-June. However, daily new case counts currently stand at more than 6,000—three times higher than in the spring. The MDHHS has said that while testing has increased by 78 percent since October 1, the test positivity rate has increased by 225 … [Read more...] about Michigan Covid guidelines explained as Governor Whitmer announces new restrictions
North Korea confirms 15 new Covid deaths as fever cases ‘explode’
Spiralling numbers of Covid cases have led to a major medical mobilisation in North Korea. State media has confirmed 15 more deaths and says hundreds of thousands of patients are struggling with ‘high fevers.’ Yesterday, Kim Jong-un conceded the outbreak was a ‘great disaster’. The admission follows contentious claims North Korea had been ‘coronavirus-free’ during the last two years. A fever has reportedly spread through the country ‘explosively’ since April, but little has been disclosed on the exact number of positive cases. The confirmed number of fatalities in North Korea stands at 42. And according to the Korean Central News Agency, the number of people with ‘high fevers’ has now reached 820,620. The numbers of positive Covid-19 cases may have not been revealed due to the fact health chiefs lack enough testing kits, experts say. A humanitarian crisis could soon loom for North Korea if case numbers continue to accelerate at such a high rate. 61 percent believe America’s response to COVID crisis is unsuccessful, poll says
New polling data suggests more than two-thirds of U.S. adults disapprove of the federal government's pandemic response, as President Donald Trump tracks nearly 10 points behind presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden in national election surveys. Results of an NBC News/ Wall Street Journal poll, released Sunday morning, show 61 percent of respondents believe the country's COVID-19 management strategy is unsuccessful. They also indicate the majority of individuals who hold that perspective feel strongly about it, with close to 40 percent of the poll's participants describing America's response the virus outbreak as "very unsuccessful." Another 36 percent of those surveyed said they feel the response is successful, although just a small fraction—8 percent—described it as "very successful." The poll acquired responses from 900 registered voters across the U.S. between August 9 and August 12, shortly after the country's confirmed COVID-19 cases surpassed 5 million and … [Read more...] about 61 percent believe America’s response to COVID crisis is unsuccessful, poll says

Kim Jong-Un blames Covid outbreak on ‘slack and immature’ officials
Kim Jong Un has lashed out at his own officials as Covid-19 continues to sweep through North korea. The hermit nation reported more than 232,000 new cases and six deaths as Omicron explodes in the unvaccinated nation . Pyongyang has referred to the illness as a ‘fever’ and likely lacks the testing capabilities to sequence tests and confirm they are caused by the coronavirus. The closed country has admitted it has seen 62 deaths and 1.7 million cases since late April, around 700,00 of whom remain in quarantine. North Korea has previously rejected international offers of vaccine aid but analysts view its unusual reporting of cases as being akin to an appeal for help. The dictator has directly criticised his own health authorities over the handling of the initial outbreak, according to state news. He is reported to have told a meeting of senior party officials that ‘immaturity in the state capacity for coping with the crisis’ are to blame, accusing them of a … [Read more...] about Kim Jong-Un blames Covid outbreak on ‘slack and immature’ officials
