Kyler Murray has already been on one hell of a journey, and he hasn't even reached the start line yet. On Thursday night the Arizona Cardinals did what everyone expected and selected Murray first overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, but it wasn't always the obvious move. Go back just a couple of months and the idea of Murray going first off the board to Arizona seemed laughable. A couple of months further and there were significant doubts about whether he'd play American football professionally at all. The 21-year-old from Bedford, Texas, is the first person to ever be taken in the first round of both the Major League Baseball (MLB) and NFL Draft. Some talent. Having foregone a career in baseball, he is now the man tasked with leading the Cardinals out of the mire. The Cards were comfortably the worst team in football last year, finishing dead last in the NFC West with a 3-13 record. That's what led them to the number one overall pick. Here's how Murray would up in the same spot... … [Read more...] about Who is Kyler Murray? Baseball prodigy, ‘too small’ to play quarterback and now the No 1 pick in 2019 NFL Draft

CHILLING CCTV shows two ISIS suicide bombers arriving at a Sri Lanka hotel’s breakfast buffet wearing backpacks before blowing themselves up. The two killers, who tried to conceal their faces with baseball hats, smirked as they discussed their plot in the lift in the final seconds before the Easter Sunday slaughter. One can be seen joining the queue for breakfast at the Shangri-La hotel in Colombo before setting off a bomb, slaughtering tourists and staff. At least 290 people were killed and more than 500 others injured in a series of coordinated terror attacks at hotels and churches across the country. Among the victims at the Shangri-La were three of the four children of Danish ASOS billionaire Anders Holch Povlsen. Ilham Ibrahim, 36, who is the son of a millionaire spice tycoon, is understood to have set off the first bomb at the Shangri-La. Seconds later YouTube Islamist ranter Zahran Hashim detonated a second device which killed Brit teenager Daniel Linsey, 19, and his … [Read more...] about ISIS terrorists in backpacks queue up at Sri Lanka hotel breakfast buffet before blowing themselves up
Bob Nightengale USA TODAY Published 4:46 PM EDT Apr 23, 2019 MESA, Ariz. — Addison Russell, the old man on the diamond, walks off the field, plops into a golf cart, wipes the perspiration off his forehead and smiles weakly. Russell’s teammates with the Chicago Cubs left town a month ago. So did nearly all of the fans, except for two sitting in the bleachers over the weekend. Otherwise Russell is surrounded by a bunch of kids wearing Cubs’ uniforms, playing in the Arizona Rookie League, most of whom have yet to put a razor to their face. “There’s no one here with any facial hair,’’ Russell, 25, says. “I feel like, ‘Wow, I finally fit in now.’ “This brings you back to your roots, and reminds you why you played this game in the first place. It’s also the reminder that this is not where I’m supposed to be at in my life.’’ Russell knows he’s … [Read more...] about Addison Russell: With MLB suspension ending, reality sets in for Cubs shortstop
AP Updated 2:10 AM EDT Apr 8, 2019 DENVER (AP) — Cody Bellinger has been doing plenty of damage with his bat. He showed his defense is pretty good, too. The 2017 NL Rookie of the Year homered again and made two big plays in right field, Max Muncy also went deep and the homer-happy Los Angeles Dodgers outslugged the Colorado Rockies 12-6 on Sunday night. Bellinger had three hits, including his major league-leading seventh home run, and has hit safely in 11 straight games dating to last year. The Dodgers have 24 homers and have connected in all 10 games. They scored 29 runs and swept a series at Coors Field for the second consecutive season. Bellinger has two more home runs on his own than the Dodgers had through 10 games in 2018. "He's covering a lot of different pitches, a lot of different zones," manager Dave Roberts said. "He's playing that cat-and-mouse and picking his spots to release that barrel. The numbers speak to it — he's dangerous." He can also play in the … [Read more...] about Bellinger hits 7th HR, Dodgers beat Rockies 12-6 for sweep
Did you know the that the world famous hot dog was "invented" or certainly "popularised" by a man who lived in Derby in the mid to late 19th century? And is it possible you could be related to Harry Mosley Stevens? His US descendants - in Derby on a whirlwind fact-finding visit - think there is a good chance, especially if your name is Wragg or Pym(m). Harry was born on June 14, 1855 and seems to have spent his early years in the Litchurch area of Derby, but seems to have had some early education at Repton School, possibly through his mother's connections with Etwall, where the John Port family lived and who were instrumental in supporting the school. That he was ambitious seems to be without doubt, but his first job was a puddler - someone who was responsible for the stirring of molten pig iron to convert it to wrought iron. This would fit in well with him living in the Litchurch area as there were several notable foundries in the area. By 21, Harry had married Mary Wragg and the … [Read more...] about Could you be related to the ‘Hot Dog King’ who was born in Derby?
