The White House said Thursday it will begin launching a handful of new efforts to expand so-called "test-to-treat" sites to prescribe and dole out pills to treat COVID-19, starting with the country's first "federally-supported" location in Rhode Island. The Biden administration said it will also "deploy clinical personnel" to some of Minnesota's state-run testing sites into test-to-treat locations over the coming days. New York and Illinois will also get a federally-supported test-to-treat site, the administration announced. "There are now more than 2,500 Test-to-Treat locations across the country at local pharmacies and community health centers—up from 2,200 a month ago," the White House said. The new efforts come amid a growing nationwide wave of COVID-19 cases that has led to surging hospitalizations among the oldest Americans. Overall, the pace of new COVID-19 hospitalizations has accelerated for more than a month, especially among Americans ages 70 and older – the age … [Read more...] about White House touts efforts to expand COVID test-to-treat sites amid latest wave

NYT Reporter Asks If White House Will ‘Claw Back’ COVID Relief Loan From Gun Manufacturer After Uvalde Shooting | The Daily Wire
New York Times White House correspondent Michael Shear asked whether President Joe Biden might move to “claw back” a pandemic-related business loan obtained by gun manufacturer Daniel Defense. Shear claimed that the 18-year-old shooter who barricaded himself inside Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas — killing 19 students and two adults before law enforcement officers killed him — had used a firearm made by Daniel Defense. He then asked whether the White House would consider pulling back the $3 million PPP loan in light of the fact that their product had been used to perpetrate a mass shooting. Title 42: Controversial Trump-era immigration policy remains in place
On May 20, a federal judge in Louisiana ruled that Title 42, a policy used since the Trump-era to expel millions of asylum seekers at the southern border, must remain in place. In April, the Biden administration had announced a plan to rescind the controversial public health order, which restricts migrants' entry into the US on the grounds that they pose a health risk. But over 20 states filed a lawsuit against the decision. Title 42 was invoked by former president Donald Trump in March 2020, at the start of the coronavirus pandemic. The provision, laid out in the United States Code, is designed to protect public health and was officially implemented by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to curb the spread of COVID-19. But effectively it means that Border Patrol can immediately turn back and expel migrants attempting to cross into the US without legal authorization, denying them the opportunity to request asylum and have their claim heard. In the last two … [Read more...] about Title 42: Controversial Trump-era immigration policy remains in place
US and Mexico presidents discuss ‘unprecedented’ migration surge
US President Joe Biden and his Mexican counterpart, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, discussed the pressure from migration at the countries' border during an hourlong phone call on Friday, vowing to promote "just, humane and effective efforts to reduce" irregularity. Describing the conversation as "cordial", Lopez Obrador tweeted that they "spoke of issues of interest to the bilateral relationship." The two presidents also talked about the upcoming Summit of the Americas in June in Los Angeles, with Lopez Obrador calling on the United States to invite all nations of the Americas to the summit "without excluding anyone." The remarks were a reference to the Biden administration's suggestion that Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua were … [Read more...] about US and Mexico presidents discuss ‘unprecedented’ migration surge

China and Taiwan: A really simple guide
By David Brown Published 3 days ago Share close Share page Copy link About sharing US president Joe Biden has said he would be willing to use force to defend Taiwan, but White House officials insist the US has not changed its position. Washington has had a long-standing policy of "strategic ambiguity" on whether it would intervene militarily in the event of a Chinese attack on Taiwan. China's President Xi Jinping has said "reunification" with Taiwan " must be fulfilled " - and has not ruled out the possible use of force to achieve this. China sees self-ruled Taiwan as a breakaway province that will eventually be part of the country again. However, Taiwan sees itself as an independent country, with its own constitution and democratically-elected leaders. Where is Taiwan? Taiwan is an island, roughly 100 miles from the coast of south east China. It sits in the … [Read more...] about China and Taiwan: A really simple guide
