Leicester Tigers edged a nervy affair with Sale Sharks 19-15 in the Gallagher Premiership at Welford Road. The kicking of Tigers fly-half George Ford, who landed four penalties and a conversion, was the difference between the teams in an error-strewn game. Tigers had Ben White starting at scrum-half with Kyle Eastmond back in the lineup at inside centre. Sale had to make a late change with fly-half AJ MacGinty ruled out. Sam James moved to No.10 with Luke James named at outside centre. Leicester enjoyed the early momentum but failed to make their pressure count and it was Sale who struck first as a kick on the left bounced nicely for Denny Solomona, who claimed possession for the Sharks in the Leicester 22. The ball was moved smartly to the right, where Marland Yarde was the man over to score in the corner. Tigers answer came following some solid work at a line-out 30m from the Sale line. The home side kept the ball alive and an off-load from Gareth Owen enabled Eastmond to cross for … [Read more...] about George Ford kicks Leicester Tigers to 19-15 win over Sale Sharks

The Tigers avoided a third successive league defeat thanks to centre Kyle Eastmond’s first-half try, plus four penalties and a conversion from fly-half George Ford. Sale took an early lead when wing Marland Yarde rounded off a flowing move, while hooker Rob Webber and substitute Curtis Langdon touched down during the final quarter, but the Sharks are still without a Premiership away win since March and it is 10 years since they triumphed on Leicester soil. It could, though, have been a different story if scrum-half Will Cliff had not missed all three of his kicks at goal, and a losing bonus point proved scant consolation after they outscored Leicester 3-1 on tries. Nearly every manufacturer is getting one to market, and even companies that you’d never think of when it comes to large four-wheel-drives – we’re looking at you Lamborghini – are making the most of current consumer enthusiasm for sitting up high and having a commanding view of the road ahead. Ford has been ahead of the trend somewhat. We’ve seen cars such as the Edge and EcoSport enter the fray a little while back well as this – the Kuga. Now updated and sharper than ever, it’s the latest vehicle to join our long-term test fleet. So what have we got then? Well, this particular Kuga is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine mated to Ford’s Powershift automatic gearbox. It’s also – as tends to be the case with … [Read more...] about The Ford Kuga is a fresh addition to the fleet
It doesn’t seem like 20 years since Ford launched the Focus but in truth Henry’s Escort replacement is part of the scenery in the UK, where it has hovered in the top-five best seller list for the last two decades. As well as sales of 1.97 million here, it’s done alright in the rest of the world, too – 16 million have found homes globally, with even the Pope having used one at times. So now we get Mark IV version. Visibly bigger (though we’re to come back to that), 50kg lighter, 10 per cent more economical, and cheaper, this new vision of family motoring was launched in what is, with the possible exception of the Goodwin Sands, the least car-friendly site in the UK. ‘Here East’ in the Olympic Park in East London does at least partially fulfill Ford’s global ambitions to be a modern digital mobility company, but beyond that the choice was baffling. “It’s a unique space for entrepreneurs, tech … [Read more...] about New Ford Focus revealed in London: it’s cheaper, it’s lighter, but will it be better?
