Republicans will try to create an ‘ethics’ trap for Democrats. Don’t fall for it

· January 25, 2021 ·

That starts with changing political incentives that currently punish leaders who try to act responsibly and reward those who don’t. Some members of the press will surely be tempted to return to their own version of normalcy – one where Obama’s tan suit is a scandal, Joe Biden’s Peloton is a political liability, and it’s generally assumed that Republicans will behave like arsonists while Democrats behave like adults. Yes, the press should hold the Biden Administration accountable. But it would do the American public a disservice to pretend the last four years didn’t happen, or to take it for granted that most Republican politicians will behave like arsonists and most Democratic politicians will try to behave like adults. … [Read more...] about Republicans will try to create an ‘ethics’ trap for Democrats. Boris Johnson ‘will visit Scotland THIS WEEK’ to promote the union as he slams Nicola Sturgeon for demanding a new independence vote – whether he agrees to one or not – instead of concentrating on beating coronavirus

· January 25, 2021 ·

Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross today called on the other unionist parties in Scotland to boycott any unoffical referendum. He told the Herald:  'Anything that constitutes this new battle they want to take to the courts and an unofficial referendum should be boycotted, it shouldn't be given any credibility. It is again a divisive tactic by the SNP to split our country apart with no then formal recognition of the result.  … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson ‘will visit Scotland THIS WEEK’ to promote the union as he slams Nicola Sturgeon for demanding a new independence vote – whether he agrees to one or not – instead of concentrating on beating coronavirus

Devolution architect Gordon Brown says Scotland should get MORE political power within the UK to see off independence threat as he claims Britain risks becoming a ‘failed’ state without reform

· January 24, 2021 ·

After desperate efforts by unionists to head off a referendum, one is held. The SNP complains that the 'Better Together' campaign deploys 'Project Fear'. There are threats to stop Scotland using the pound after independence, cut it adrift from the Bank of England, and warnings that it will not be able to stay in the EU.  Both Mr Salmond and Nicola Sturgeon say that the referendum will settle the issue 'for a generation'.  The unionists emerge victorious by 55 per cent to 45 per cent. David Cameron later indiscreetly reveals that the Queen 'purred down the phone' at him when informed of the result. … [Read more...] about Devolution architect Gordon Brown says Scotland should get MORE political power within the UK to see off independence threat as he claims Britain risks becoming a ‘failed’ state without reform
