Incredible photos offer a glimpse into a grade II listed house which resembles an eerie time capsule after being abandoned when its owners died. Urban explorers came across the crumbling six bed property in Wigan, Lancs., which is full of old newspapers, magazines and family photos. Despite evidence that the house was lived in as recently as 2017, the decor and furnishings appear to be a time capsule from a much earlier decade. A 1970s-style square tv features in the living room, while the carpet and wallpaper appears unchanged for decades. A couple of urban explorers, known only as Andrew and Courtney, came across the house over the weekend as part of their hobby of finding fascinating abandoned buildings. Cannes opens with Ukraine’s Zelenskyy as special guest
To provide glamour and still be political: that has always been the claim of the most important European film festival in Cannes . In times of war in Europe, a special guest appealed to the filmmakers and actors on the opening night of the 75th Cannes Film Festival to remember their medium's past contributions in troubled times. The prerecorded message from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy received a standing ovation. "Will cinema keep quiet, or will it speak up? If there is a dictator, if there is a war for freedom, once again, everything depends on our unity. Can cinema stay outside of this unity?" Zelenskyy said. The Ukrainian leader called on a new generation of filmmakers to confront dictators as Charlie Chaplin mocked Adolf Hitler in "The Great Dictator" in 1940. "We need a new Chaplin to prove today that cinema is not mute," he said. This year, the Cannes Film Festival is not receiving any official Russian delegations. However, artistic director Thierry … [Read more...] about Cannes opens with Ukraine’s Zelenskyy as special guest

Bowie v Elvis: How rock stars took over Cannes
Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, David Cronenberg, K-Stew. The Cannes organisers have certainly rallied the A-list troops for the rabidly anticipated 75th edition of the film festival, which kicks off today. After last year’s Covid instalment – an understandably muted, half-mast affair – the promise this year is a full blast of Cannes delirium, with rumoured controversies, proper parties and paparazzi galore. If this suggests a rocking good time, selectors are tripling down on that threat with air-guitar largesse, by unveiling a hat-trick of high-profile features about music legends: Elvis Presley, David Bowie and Jerry Lee Lewis. The latter two are documentaries, while Elvis is a full-blown jukebox biopic from Baz Luhrmann , who hasn’t made a film since 2013’s Cannes curtain-raiser The Great Gatsby. First up is Jerry Lee Lewis: Trouble in Mind, a breezy-looking, 73-minute portrait of one of rock ’n’ roll’s original wild men, whose career nose-dived when he married his 13-year-old … [Read more...] about Bowie v Elvis: How rock stars took over Cannes
