Heathrow has been hit by another day of travel chaos with hundreds of passengers left without luggage and caught up in lengthy queues. Huge lines were seen snaking around the outside of the London airport this morning, as it continues to be hit by staffing shortages. One traveller described the "chaos" and "lengthy wait times" at Terminal 2, saying there "simply is not enough space to queue". Tensions appeared to boil over at one point, with "some flare-ups" being reported between the public and stressed-out staff. Airlines were even forced to "fish" customers out of security queues for final calls, said another passenger, who spent two and a half hours waiting inside the airport. Footage capturing "hundreds of cases" piled up at baggage reclaim, which is the responsibility of the airlines and their ground handlers, was also posted to Twitter this morning. It is the third day in a row that Heathrow has faced delays, after travellers compared the scenes to something out … [Read more...] about Heathrow chaos as hundreds lose luggage and airlines ‘fish passengers out of queues’

Anti-Putin campaigners ‘using porn sites to show Russians the truth about Ukraine war’
As Vladimir Putin tightens his grip on access to independent news and information in Russia , campaigners have turned to using porn sites to get their anti-war messages across. Russia recently introduced fake news legislation, a group of federal laws prohibiting the dissemination of information considered "unreliable" by Russian authorities, which many condemn as a tool to control criticism of the state. A jail term of up to 15 years is the punishment for spreading intentionally "fake" news about the military. Steroid use is four times higher since Love Island
We all know what it’s like to look at someone on TV and wish we had their body. Whether it’s perfectly toned arms or a perky as all hell bum, we’ve been trained since infancy to think that our bodies aren’t good enough, and to try and aspire to the kind of physique which takes hours a day and tonnes of money to achieve. A 48-hour itinerary for experiencing the authentic Algarve - without a golf club in sight The pressure to look like celebrities is an issue that we often hear discussed in relation to young women, and while that’s a very real issue, it’s sometimes forgotten that men can be equally damaged by pressure to look a certain way. This issue is exemplified by the news that steroid usage among men has quadrupled since Love Island was on telly. According to YouGov, 16 to 24-year-old men using anabolic steroids rose from 0.1 to 0.4 per cent between 2015-16 and 2016-17. Those numbers might look teeny, but what they actually mean is that 19,000 more … [Read more...] about Steroid use is four times higher since Love Island
Using candy and jam to protect Brazil’s Amazon rainforest
Tapirs, jaguars, and giant armadillos are some of the 430 species of mammals that share a home with Luiz Henrique Lopes Ferreira in Brazil's eastern Amazon . Ferreira makes and sells sweets, jams, and liqueurs from more than a hundred varieties of local fruit trees. The 22-year-old is part of a new generation showing how forest communities with economic opportunities can help promote biodiversity protection and prevent deforestation. It is home to over 370 different types of bird, 99 species of fish and around 13,000 people, mostly Indigenous and mixed heritage caboclo communities. The Amazon rainforest is rich in biodiversity but many species are now under threat Identifying himself as Indigenous, Ferreira says that although he was born in Manaus, the capital of Amazonas State, the forest has been his real home since his … [Read more...] about Using candy and jam to protect Brazil’s Amazon rainforest
The West should confiscate Russian assets – and use them to rebuild Ukraine
Dilbar is one of the world’s largest superyachts. The 512-foot vessel weighs almost 16,000 tonnes and boasts a swimming pool, two helicopter pads, a sauna, a beauty salon, and a gym. According to the US Treasury, it is worth around £650 million. In April, after Russia’s illegal invasion of my country, the German authorities seized Dilbar as it was docked in Hamburg. They moved to act because the owner is Alisher Usmanov, a Russian oligarch once estimated to be the richest person in the UK . Following the invasion, Mr Usmanov, who used to co-own Arsenal Football Club, was placed on Western sanctions lists because of his close ties to Vladimir Putin, the Russian president. The US Treasury said his links to the Kremlin “enrich him and enable his luxurious lifestyle”. It is not yet known what will happen to Dilbar. Legions of lawyers are now reportedly involved. But for Ukraine, it is very clear. The superyacht and all of its 1,000 sofa cushions should be confiscated from … [Read more...] about The West should confiscate Russian assets – and use them to rebuild Ukraine

Flights halted after plane skids off runway during landing
A plane has gone off the end of a runway during landing at Cardiff Airport, reportedly leaving flights cancelled, delayed and diverted. Travellers faced fresh chaos today when the runway was closed for about an hour on Sunday. No one was injured in the incident, which took place around 1.30pm, and the plane is still intact. But a Wizz Air flight from Cardiff Airport to Larnaca was later cancelled, passengers claim. The incident was named ‘a shambles’ after the journey was delayed by several hours earlier. Passengers arriving in Cardiff on a Wizz Air flight from Corfu were also left frustrated when they were sent to Bristol instead. They landed an hour late before being forced to sit on the runway for nearly two hours, Wales Online reports. One person on Twitter said: ‘On Wizz Air flight from Corfu. Was supposed to land at 1330 in Cardiff. ‘Currently waiting on Tarmac in Bristol. Apparently we’re waiting to refuel and get a new landing slot in Cardiff. I’m a cleaning pro – the $5 product I use to make shirts white when they’re yellowing, no one’s ever heard of it
IF you want your whites to glisten and gleam, it will only take one key product. A cleaning expert has revealed the best way to keep your whites in top condition. In a video shared with her 3.7 million TikTok followers, a woman who goes by @nottheworstcleaner on social media revealed her process for making a yellowing shirt become white again. "If you have white shirts that seem a little gray or were previously bleached, and now yellow, you need to try Liquid Bluing," she said. "All you need to do is dilute a few drops in some cold water and add it to your washer's final rinse cycle if it's a larger load." The cleaning expert mentioned that if you're working on a smaller load, you can use a bucket. "You can just do it in a bucket for about 10 minutes, soak it, and then rinse," she explained. Liquid Bluing can be purchased for just $4.95 at Ace Hardware. According to the cleaning whizz, Liquid Bluing is non-toxic, and not a harsh chemical like bleach, so it … [Read more...] about I’m a cleaning pro – the $5 product I use to make shirts white when they’re yellowing, no one’s ever heard of it
Drivers could be hit by £1,000 fines for making commonly used ‘thank you gestures’
The old saying goes that "good manners cost nothing". But that simply isn't true on the UK's roads . Quite the contrary, in fact, as it turns out that politely thanking fellow motorists while driving could result in a large fine, according to the Highway Code. It has become customary in the UK for drivers to show their gratitude to fellow motorists whenever they carry out a favour like allowing them into a junction or lane or stopping to let them pass safely. Drivers will often display their appreciation to each other by waving to their counterpart or flashing their headlights. Using the hazards to thank another driver could result in a hefty fine ( Image: Getty Images/iStockphoto) Almost a third (29.1 per cent) of motorists choose to say "thank you" on the roads by waving, a survey by National Tyres and Autocare found. The research showed that around one in five (21.2 per cent) prefer to flash their headlights. Some 17.5 per cent said they like to flash … [Read more...] about Drivers could be hit by £1,000 fines for making commonly used ‘thank you gestures’
