If you’re finding it hard to focus at work this week, you're not alone - studies show that heat can zap brain power and make it harder to be productive on the job. A recent study from professors at the University of Virginia revealed that the hotter you are, the harder you'll find it to make complex decisions. The researchers suggest the problem might be caused by low glucose levels in the brain. Brain training experts from Im-a-puzzle.com have gathered some top tips for beating brain fog in the warm weather as we all struggle on. A spokesperson said: “While there’s scientific evidence suggesting that we are likely to lose focus in extreme temperatures, there are some easy ways to help tackle the brain fog to help to stay alert during the day. “From the food you consume to the place you sit to study, making a few small changes this week could make a dramatic difference to your energy levels.” It's far too hot to be fully functional (Stock Image) ( Image: Getty … [Read more...] about Beat brain fog in the heatwave by eating salad – it’ll make you more productive

Catholic High products Hill-Green, LeBlanc primed to reach even greater heights this fall
Zi'yon Hill-Green and Peter LeBlanc took different approaches to the summer, but both Catholic High of New Iberia products are primed to contribute to the 2022 Ragin' Cajun football season. "I took a trip," Hill-Green said on the eve of Cajuns practice last week. "Some friends of mine and I went to visit Arizona. There were 11 of us in all. We wanted to get away for a while before the season started. "It was a great break to see something new." Hill-Green, who graduated last Friday with a general studies degree featuring a focus on kinesiology, will have no trouble shifting gears towards the Cajuns' quest for another Sun Belt conference title. In fact, the trip cleared his mind for the task ahead, But getting that degree remains special. "That was big for my family,' said Hill-Green, a veteran disruptive element in the UL defensive line. Oil, Fish, and Georges Bank
FOR MORE THAN 350 years, men have been going to Georges Bank, 150 miles out on the continental shelf east of Cape Cod, to fish for cod, haddock, yellowtail flounder, scallops, lobsters. They have decimated stocks more than once, but the fisheries are still there. Back in the early seventies, when catches were unsustainably high, the harvest was, acre-foracre, the largest in the world. Now other men are heading out to Georges to hunt—through holes inches wide and miles deep-for oil and gas. There won't be many men at first, perhaps a few hundred aboard a handful of exploratory rigs. But that is enough to signal the fact that along the great submerged thumb stretching from Nantucket Shoals toward Nova Scotia, competition for resources has begun in earnest. The conflict involves two resources in one place, both of importance to the modern world. Oil from Georges would reduce our dependence on foreign supplies, if only slightly. Fish—a resource capable of providing half our minimum … [Read more...] about Oil, Fish, and Georges Bank

Prince William and Harry kept in the dark over Channel 4 documentary about Princess Diana
The Duke of Cambridge and the Duke of Sussex were kept in the dark about a new television series that will rake over the conspiracy theories surrounding their mother’s death . The four-part Channel 4 documentary, Investigating Diana: Death in Paris, will be broadcast later this month to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the late Princess’s death. Neither of her sons was consulted about the series and neither has been shown a preview, sources confirmed. For the brothers, it will represent yet another attempt to exploit their mother’s death and will only serve to fuel the various conspiracy theories about the fatal accident that producers claim they want to “put to rest”. It will be preceded, this Sunday, by another documentary which features the discredited Panorama interview the late Princess gave to Martin Bashir. Clips from the 1995 BBC interview will be included in The Princess, a new film to be broadcast by Sky and NOW TV. Prince William has asked that the … [Read more...] about Prince William and Harry kept in the dark over Channel 4 documentary about Princess Diana

Five stars Leicester could be forced to sell including Man Utd and Arsenal target Tielemans to fund summer transfers
YOURI TIELEMANS and James Maddison are reportedly two of many stars Leicester may need to sell this summer amid fears over Financial Fair Play. Despite boss Brendan Rodgers calling for a "healthy shake up" of his squad back in February, the Foxes are the only Premier League club yet to make a signing. And according to the Telegraph , Leicester could be forced into selling more valuable assets if they can't shift lesser names before they buy. This means that the likes of Maddison, Harvey Barnes, Wesley Fofana, Youri Tielemans and James Justin could become available as the window progresses. James Maddison Maddison, 25, enjoyed a productive season last term, scoring 18 goals and assisting a further 12 in all competitions. If a Clam Can Live to 500, Why Can’t We?
One day, out of the blue, I received a telephone call from two marine biologists in Wales. As I recall, they said something like “Hello there, Dr. Austad. We are marine biologists who study clams that live a very long time. Would you like to collaborate with us to investigate how they do it?” As a biologist of aging who is perhaps best known for making a wager that the first 150-year-old person is already alive, I get a fair number of crank calls and emails from people who want to live forever—or already know how to live forever and just want my help in spreading the word. Being polite in this case, I recall my answer was something like “Possibly. What do you mean by ‘a very long time’?” “Centuries.” I held the telephone away from my ear. It was a transatlantic call. Maybe I had misheard. “Sorry, I thought you said ‘centuries.’” “Yes, that’s right—centuries.” A few months later, two researchers from Bangor University sat in my office, telling me about the longevity of … [Read more...] about If a Clam Can Live to 500, Why Can’t We?
