School superintendent arrested for threatening police chief candidate: FBI
The superintendent of a Massachusetts school district was arrested Wednesday for making false statements in relation to threatening messages she allegedly sent to a police chief candidate, the FBI announced. A Chicopee police chief candidate began receiving threats in November 2021 meant to force them to rescind their application for the position, according to a Justice Department press release . Phone and internet records allegedly showed that Lynn M. Clark, the Chicopee Superintendent of Schools, was behind the messages. Clark had allegedly refuted sending the messages on several occasions but then later acknowledged that she did send them, according to the Justice Department. It was not immediately clear why Clark, 51, allegedly targeted a police chief candidate with threats and later denied being behind the messages. The Justice Department said that she allegedly sent about 99 messages in total through fake numbers that she purchased in a mobile app. The complaint … [Read more...] about School superintendent arrested for threatening police chief candidate: FBI
Cost of living: Energy chief says any windfall tax should fall upon ‘those with the broadest shoulders’
The boss of energy company E.ON has said any windfall tax in the UK should fall upon "those with the broadest shoulders" as consumers face a doubling in prices. Michael Lewis, E.ON's chief executive, also said energy regulator Ofgem needed to look again at why prepayment meter customers are having to pay more for their energy than direct debit customers. "We've lobbied for a social tariff. We would like to see the poorest customers getting a better deal, but in the end this is regulated by Ofgem," Mr Lewis told BBC One's Sunday Morning. Read more: How much are things going up? Use our spending calulator He said the company had surveyed 500 customers and found 71% of people were concerned about their energy bills, with 66% reducing their heating and about a third spending less on food as a result. Erik ten Hag has already outlined the minimum expectation of the Manchester United squad he is set to inherit from Ralf Rangnick . The 52-year-old was confirmed as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ’s permanent successor last month and is set to begin the seismic rebuilding job required at Old Trafford. The rare infectious disease, which causes distinctive pustules but is rarely fatal, is endemic to parts of Central and Western Africa. Data also suggests that gay and bisexual men are currently being disproportionally affected by the disease, with health chiefs in the UK "actively investigating" venues visited by six gay and bisexual men who have tested positive.
