Electro star Philippe Zdar, one half of the cult French house duo Cassius, has died after falling from a window in Paris -- two days before his latest album is released, his agent said. Zdar, who was 52, and had worked with a host of rap and electro stars including Kanye West, Pharrell, MC Solaar, Cat Power and the Beastie Boys' Mike D, is believed to have fallen from a sixth-floor window in northern Paris. He was a key figure in the so-called "French Touch" wave of electronic bands led by Air, Daft Punk and St Germain. His agent Sebastien Farran said the Grammy-winner "suffered an accidental fall from a high floor of a Paris building" on Wednesday evening. Cerboneschi formed Cassius in 1996 with Hubert Blanc-Francard, or 'Boom Bass'. The duo became a staple of the French electronic scene with their first album "1999" released the same year and mixing hip hop, house and funk. They had met a few years earlier when Zdar was already working as a sound engineer for artists such as Serge Gainsbourg and was part of the Motorbass duo with Etienne de Crecy. Three other Cassius studio albums followed, "Au reve" in 2002, "15 Again" which marked a turn towards rock in 2006 with the single "Toop Toop" and "Ibifornia" in 2016. The French DJ and producer Philippe Zdar has died after accidentally falling from a building in Paris, his agent has said. He was thought to be 52 years old. Zdar, born Philippe Cerboneschi, and Hubert Blanc-Francard had produced tracks for the French rapper MC Solaar before founding the dance music duo Cassius in 1989. They rose through the pioneering Paris electronic music scene known as French touch, producing remixes for groups such as Air. Zdar also formed Motorbass with Etienne de Crécy and released one album, Pansoul, in 1996. Zdar’s solo production for other artists earned him a reputation in his own right. He stepped in to save Phoenix’s 2000 debut album, United, when sessions with the initial producer went awry. He was renowned for his DJing skills and worked with the likes of Kayne West and Jay-Z during his lengthy music career. But who was the man behind the decks? Who is Philippe Zdar? Philippe Zdar, whose real was Cerboneschi, was a French DJ, producer and a member of Cassius, a legendary French House group, with Hubert Blanc-Francard. French DJ Philippe Zdar has died after accidentally falling from a building in Paris. The 50-year-old, real name Philippe Cerboneschi, fell through a window on a “high floor” in the capital, his manager Sebastien Farran confirmed. In a statement he said: “He made an accidental fall, through the window of a high floor of a Parisian building.” No further details were given. Zdar was one half of dance duo Cassius, which he formed with Hubert Blanc-Francard in 1996.
