“I wonder what David Cameron is doing today,” tweeted Anneka Rice on Tuesday. “Cotswold pub lunch? Golf?” The TV and radio presenter is not principally known for her political comment, but it was clear, more than 30,000 likes and 5,000 retweets later, that she had captured something of the public mood. As his successor as prime minister endured an unprecedented drubbing in parliament with the rejection of her deal with the EU, where was the man who had set the Brexit boulder careering downhill in the first place? The answer came the following morning, when Cameron, wearing shorts and warmly tanned from a recent family holiday at a £1,728-a-night resort in Costa Rica, was stopped by reporters on the doorstep of his Notting Hill home. No, he said, he didn’t regret calling the referendum, though he did regret losing it. “And obviously regret the difficulties and the problems we’ve been having trying to implement the result.” And off he … [Read more...] about So what is David Cameron really doing now?

Hundreds of firefighters are tackling a wildfire near the luxury Portuguese villa where former Prime Minister David Cameron is holidaying as the Iberian heatwave continues. Around a dozen planes have also been mobilised in the effort to bring the blaze near the village of Monchique a half-drive drive from the Algarve coast under control. Sources said Mr Cameron, who is thought to resting with his family, was lunching in Monchique on Friday before the fire broke out. He is thought to have received updates on the blaze from a British diplomat who was at a press briefing today, held by local Civil Protection workers. Although the secluded retreat the former Prime Minister is staying at is on the other side of the mountain to where the fire broke out, smoke from the blaze has been drifting across to the area he is in and causing concern. The Camerons are regulars at the property, which has featured in Tatler’s ‘Top 50 villas to rent’. DANNY Dyer today received support from an unexpected source as Theresa May stood up for him over his foul-mouthed Brexit rant. The PM defended the actor's right to call David Cameron a "t**t" - and declined to stand up for her predecessor at No 10. But she did hit out against Danny's claim that Brexit is a "mad riddle". The EastEnders star sparked a nation-wide reaction when he went off on one about Brexit during Good Evening Britain last night. As well as blasting the confusion over our EU exit, he accused Mr Cameron of being a coward for quitting Downing Street. Asked if Mrs May agreed with Mr Dyer's assessment, the PM's spokesman said: "Much like columnists and others, people who appear on broadcast and newspapers are perfectly entitled to their opinion." But on the issue of Brexit, Mrs May stood up to the star and insisted talks are going well. The spokesman said: "We have always been clear that Brexit is a challenging process but we've made good progress on it." Mr Dyer's outburst … [Read more...] about Theresa May says Danny Dyer is ‘perfectly entitled’ to call David Cameron a ‘t**t’ – and refuses to stand up for ex-PM
Danny Dyer was 'perfectly entitled' to call David Cameron a t**t, a Downing Street spokeswoman said today. The EastEnder was so furious with the former Prime Minister's post-Brexit disappearing act during a TV appearance last night, that he turned the air Tory blue - branding him a t**t. Twice. He accused the former PM of "scuttling off" after plunging the country into the confusion of EU withdrawal. But a spokesman for Mr Cameron made clear the former prime minister would not be responding in kind, saying: "That's not something we will be commenting on." And Downing Street was equally restrained, noting only that "people who appear on broadcasts and in newspapers are perfectly entitled to their opinions". Theresa May did not see the broadcast, as she was having dinner with EU leaders at the European Council in Brussels at the time, said a spokeswoman. He delivered the inspired rant on a surreal late-night edition of Good Morning Britain - entitled Good Evening Britain. As Labour … [Read more...] about Danny Dyer was ‘perfectly entitled’ to call David Cameron a t**t, says No10

Not for the first time, I was thrown because I had taken him at his word and believed him when he said that he’d stay no matter what the result. His decision to ban Whitehall from preparing for a ‘no’ result denied crucial preparation time with consequences still being felt today. So I had a certain sympathy with Danny Dyer who had a few things to say about Cameron on ITV’s Good Evening Britain last night. And a crunch summit in Chequers next week is being called, in spite of there … [Read more...] about Why Danny Dyer has a point about David Cameron
