A UNION has slammed the UK Government over a potentially lucrative shipbuilding deal for Spain, despite the country’s pressure on Gibraltar.Four foreign firms, and one British group, are in the running for the €1.15 billion Royal Navy contract, including Spanish shipbuilders Navantia.Ross Murdoch of the Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Unions pointed to the wargames Spain has been attempting to engage the British in off Gibraltar.“Our members are saying to us, ‘With all this going on in Gibraltar, are we seriously going to award the contract (to a Spanish firm)?’,” he told MPs at the Commons Defence Committee.The Fleet Solid Support ships in question will support the Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier and fellow vessel, Prince of Wales. DRAMATIC audio of a Royal Navy ship chasing away a trespassing Spanish vessel off the coast off Gibraltar has emerged. The Spanish vessel Serviola was chased away after endangering marine traffic when it entered in to British colony’s territorial waters. It was the latest in a series of bullying incidents by Spain as it flexes its muscles over the Rock which has been British for centuries but claimed by Madrid. In Saturday’s stand off Royal Navy patrol boat HMS Sabre and a coastguard RHIB were both deployed to ensure the Serviola left our waters which she eventually did. The dramatic audio obtained by The Sun captures the moment the captain of HMS Sabre orders the Spanish vessel to leave. He can be heard issuing sovereignty warnings to the Serviola and adding in Spanish to underline the situation that she is “sailing imprudently and endangering traffic”. On Thursday, June 28, Salcombe was officially affiliated to the HMS Magpie, the Royal Navy’s newest addition to the Hydrographic Squadron at a commissioning ceremony at HMNB Devonport.The prestigious role of affiliate is to be an advocate for the ship, her commander, and her crew for her working lifetime alongside the ship’s lady sponsor, Teresa Gardner, wife of RA Chris Gardner CBE. Mayor Cllr Nikki Turton represented Salcombe at the ceremony with her husband Richard, and Assistant Harbour Master Chris Gill. Royal Navy ships could be soon controlled by captains on land via new augmented reality headsets and artificial intelligence technologies. Remote control access is part of a $25 million (£20mn) investment in a range of new technology solutions for naval ships, developed by BAE Systems. HMS Duncan was swarmed by Russian jets earlier this year but only now has footage surfaced. The Royal Navy destroyer, which was built in Scotland, was leading a Nato fleet through the Black Sea at the time. Where is HMS Duncan now? The Royal Navy’s Type 45 Destroyer is currently moored off Plymouth. It had spent six months leading a Nato task force in the Mediterranean, Aegean and Black Sea. The group of warships was on a mission to promote stability and security in the region. HMS Duncan took charge of NATO’s Standing Maritime Group 2, a group of frigates, destroyers and patrol ships drawn from across the Alliance’s navies. What happened with the Russian jets?
