The excitement of buying new clothing starts to fade after just four wears – and even turns to guilt for over half of shoppers, according to a study. A poll of 2,000 adults found nearly half (47%) claim they enjoy shopping for new clothing, with the average Brit spending £70 a month updating their wardrobe – although a fifth will spend £100 or more. But the post-shopping glow doesn't last long, with 22% admitting the excitement of the item's “newness” is fleeting. And 17% soon start to develop doubts about whether or not they actually like their new purchase – until the shopping high turns to guilt for 56% of consumers. Brits typically shop for new clothes five times a month – but as the cost-of-living crisis continues to bite, three-quarters are now seeking bigger savings when they do so. Walmart has banned a man from all its stores for 99 years after he allegedly stole shoes from a Washington state outlet, according to a report. Spokane police were alerted to reports of a man wearing a pair of shoes he hadn't paid for at a Walmart on 5025 E. Sprague at about 9:10 a.m. on August 8. When a Spokane County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) deputy arrived, 27-year-old Jacob C. Lockard was found wearing a pair of sneakers that he had allegedly not bought. The value of the sneakers was not shared. The Washington Retail Association said in 2021 that theft in the state had reached an estimated $1 billion a year, while theft had cost businesses across the country an estimated $45 billion. Following Lockard's arrest, Walmart barred him from its stores for 99 years, McClatchy News reported. A company spokesperson told the outlet: "At Walmart's discretion, we reserve the right to trespass (ban) individuals who steal from our stores."
