Eighty-three per cent of female offenders have committed a non-violent offence, but hit dramas like Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black or Spanish series Locked Up will have you believe otherwise. “You know, the sexy murderer. She’s in the cell, and she looks so hot. In reality, she’s crying,” says Jade Small, before erupting into laughter. She’s an actress who has experience of prison, and is part of the all-woman company for Inside Bitch, a show about what it’s really like to serve time.
