Five teenagers have been convicted of killing a much-loved dad who was battered to death in a senseless and savage attack sparked by banter over his resemblance to Ant McPartlin . Danny Humble, 35, shared a joke with them as he and his partner made their way home from a meal and drinks in Cramlington, Northumberland, after lockdown rules were relaxed in May last year. But Newcastle Crown Court heard the atmosphere suddenly changed when the teens, then aged 16 to 18, surrounded him near an underpass and repeatedly punched and kicked him to the floor. Ex-soldier Alistair Dickson, 18, of Blyth, Northumberland, was found guilty of murder after jurors heard he stamped on Mr Humble’s head during the onslaught. The jury cleared his co-defendants of murder but found them guilty of manslaughter. They were 18-year-olds Ethan Scott, of Blyth; Kyros Robinson, from Seaton Delaval; Bailey Wilson, of Blyth; and a 17-year-old who cannot be identified by the media due to his age. … [Read more...] about Five teens guilty of killing dad ‘because he looked like one of Ant and Dec’

Slidell teen thrown from boat into Blind River on July 4 struck by propeller; dies
A recent high school graduate celebrating Independence Day on Blind River was thrown into the water from a pontoon boat under the control of a drunken operator and died after being hit by the vessel’s propeller several times, state and local officials said Tuesday. Federal judge whose son was killed in ambush: “My son’s death cannot be in vain”
[This story originally aired on February 20.] In July 2020, Daniel Anderl, the son of federal Judge Esther Salas and attorney Mark Anderl, was shot dead by a gunman at the front door of the family's New Jersey home. Daniel Anderl, 20, took a bullet to his chest trying to protect his parents. By the time Judge Salas came to the door, the killer was gone. Her husband, Mark, was wounded. "I have direct evidence that he died heroically, that he had a holy death," says David Oakley, Daniel Anderl's godfather and a family friend. The stranger who came to Judge Salas' door had been holding a package, posing as a deliveryman. Just eight days earlier, a chillingly similar incident took place in California. When attorney Marc Angelucci came to his door to sign for a package, he was also shot dead. "He was just a down-to-earth, at the center of his soul a good-hearted person," Marc's friend, Cassie Jaye, tells CBS News correspondent Tracy Smith. "[Sighs] I was trying to make … [Read more...] about Federal judge whose son was killed in ambush: “My son’s death cannot be in vain”
15 Classic Summer-Camp Movies, Ranked
Photo: Maya Robinson and Photos by Columbia Pictures, Focus Features, Eureka Pictures, Paramount Pictures and Disney Even if you spent your summers on the couch watching reruns of The Price Is Right with your babysitter Sonia who smelled like sweat and cheese balls stuck in braces instead of going to summer camp, everyone knows what camp feels like, thanks to the tons of summer-camp movies and TV shows (remember Salute Your Shorts ?) that we’ve seen over the years. With summer fully here, we thought it time we revisit some of those camps. What makes a summer-camp movie great has less to do with the experience of applying bug spray and learning to swim in the lake, and more to do with celebrating childhood, rebellion, groups of scrappy outsiders pitted against the more popular, and like-minded people banding together to make something impossible and wonderful happen. (Most of them have first kisses, too, thanks to all those girlfriends at summer camp that the other kids … [Read more...] about 15 Classic Summer-Camp Movies, Ranked
Make-up artist branded ‘scammer’ for charging woman extra as she’s a bride
A make-up artist who asked for more than three times the agreed price for a make-up service after discovering the customer was a bride has received a storm of criticism on Reddit . Several users accused the artist of being "a scammer" that sees weddings as "a cash cow," describing the price hike as "beyond insane." According to a post shared by the make-up artist (under the username Affectionate_Lie0) on Reddit's Am I The A**hole (AITA) forum, the artist was booked to do regular "party make-up," for which the user charges $150, which was the price agreed with the customer. However, while at the event, "at some point it slips from a woman about the wedding and I realise the woman I'm doing the make-up on is the bride ," the artist said. The user said, "I was completely pissed how she lied about the occasion but I kept doing my job." After the make-up artist was done, when the customer paid $150, she was told she was "$350 short," because that's what the user charges for … [Read more...] about Make-up artist branded ‘scammer’ for charging woman extra as she’s a bride
‘Working from home is contributing to Britain’s mental health crisis’
A lot of people are reflexively sceptical when meditation is brought up. “I was one of those people,” admits Russell Glass, the American chief executive of Headspace Health on a trip to London. “I’d heard the term mindfulness before and - do you have the term ‘woo woo’ over here? - It all felt kind of woo woo to me.” Today, Glass, a serial entrepreneur from New Jersey, meditates daily and has been the boss of one of the world’s biggest mental health apps since October 2021. Headspace, which has offices in California and London, experienced an influx of users during the pandemic as rates of depression and loneliness soared. Glass’s Damascene conversion was years earlier. In 2014, he had just sold his marketing start-up Bizo to LinkedIn for $175m (£144m), becoming one of the social networking giant’s top executives and netting a fortune. He should have been on top of the world, but says he found it difficult to feel at home. “I was really struggling when I joined LinkedIn from … [Read more...] about ‘Working from home is contributing to Britain’s mental health crisis’

Internet laughs as vet trip reveals cat is secretly eating neighbor’s food
As cat owners will tell you, felines are very food-orientated. From the " savage " Bengal who has to be fenced in at mealtimes, to this muffin-stealing moggy , cats will go to extreme lengths for a full belly. One pet parent was concerned after their cat stopped eating, only to discover that the sneaky puss had been stealing food from the neighbors. Posting to the subreddit r/cats on July 4, Reddit user u/Mysticstorms shared a snap of their pet with their stomach shaved. After turning down meals for three days straight, the ginger and white cat had been to the vet for an ultrasound. Fortunately, no health problems were detected, but they did find lunch. "Cat didn't eat for 3 days, went to the vet where they did an ultra sound only to find a belly full of the neighbour's cat's food," Mysticstorms wrote alongside the photograph, which had more than 45,000 upvotes at the time of publication. A study published in 2020 suggested that how pet cats are fed can determine their … [Read more...] about Internet laughs as vet trip reveals cat is secretly eating neighbor’s food
