IT's feared the Middle East might be on the brink of another war as tensions alarmingly escalate between Israel and Iran. From what they're fighting about to their military power, here's what you need to know about the conflict between the two nations. Are Israel and Iran at war? Neither Israel nor Iran have formally declared a war, but tensions between the two states have escalated significantly. On April 30, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu made bombshell claims about Iran's nuclear weapons program in a prime-time televised address carried by Israeli networks. He said: "Iran's leaders repeatedly deny ever pursuing nuclear weapons. "Tonight I'm here to tell you one thing: Iran lied. The leader spoke in English and showed pictures and videos claiming to be of secret Iranian nuclear complexes. Outlining a damning 55,000 page dossier, Netanyahu said Iran was "brazenly lying" about its massive programme to develop atomic warheads and missiles to deliver them. America is currently battening down the hatches for the latest tornado season onslaught. Twisters have already been seen in Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma this spring and many more are expected before summer arrives. The continental United States accounts for 75 per cent of the world's whirlwinds and is most severely hit between April and June every year, suffering an average of 1,225 annually between 1997 and 2016, 55 per cent of which occurred within that three-month window. May is commonly the worst hit month, averaging 275 over the same period, according to the Weather Channel. Where do tornadoes strike? Central and south eastern states are most likely to bear the brunt, particularly the Midwest, Great Plains and Mississippi Valley. South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, northern Texas and eastern Colorado are all part of the area known collectively as "Tornado Alley" due to the frequency with which they are struck by cyclones – in part due to … [Read more...] about Tornado season: What causes America’s annual twister outbreak and what should you do if you encounter one?
Israel's "proof" of an Iranian nuclear weapons plan that could be activated at any time has divided experts and comes as President Donald Trump weighs the fate of the historic 2015 nuclear agreement with Tehran. Here is a look at what's at stake and how Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech on Monday could influence events. - Are these documents truly new? - Netanyahu unveiled what he said were tens of thousands of documents taken by spies. He said the documents detail an alleged project that Iran was forced to shelve in 2003, but kept ready to put into action at any time. Experts were divided over the implications. We already knew this -- this is not … [Read more...] about Israel’s Iran nuke ‘proof’ bolsters Trump scrapping deal
DER SPIEGEL: Mr. Comey, let's jump right into this. Comey: Yeah. Hit me. Hit me. DER SPIEGEL: You have written a book about leadership, and while U.S. President Donald Trump is certainly not the only focus, you do spend quite a bit of time discussing him. Then, in your interview with ABC, you said Trump was "morally unfit" to be president. Why? Comey: The way I'd sum it up is: Anyone who sees moral equivalence in Charlottesville, who speaks about and treats women like pieces of meat and who lies constantly about things big and small, and then insists that America believe it, in my view, is not morally fit to be president. And one of the reasons I say it that way is because of all the stuff we heard following the publication of "Fire and Fury," about whether he is medically fit. I don't buy that. I never saw any indication of that. DER SPIEGEL: Almost exactly a year has passed since Trump fired you from your position as director of the FBI. What was that like? Comey: It was surreal … [Read more...] about Interview with James Comey: ‘What Am I Doing? How Did I End Up Here?’

But now that the president has finished typing will he go one further and press any red buttons? More than a day on since the bombing, the United States has held back on retaliating, leaving another western ally – believed to be Israel – to target the Syrian military airport from which it is thought the attack was launched. Trump has certainly piled pressure on himself to act, and there are several reasons to think military action will be imminent. Firstly, the president didn’t hold back on pinning the blame on ‘animal Assad’, even if, officially, the US is still waiting to see who was actually responsible. In his tweets, Trump also promised a ‘big … [Read more...] about What will Trump do about the ‘Animal Assad’?
