Mondays are the worst day to take off for parents who work part-time: this is common family Facebook chat wisdom. Take off Mondays and you’ll miss out on bank holidays, the argument goes. How to ask for flexible working Although company attitudes vary, the research supports requests for flexible work. According to research from the 2012 Flexible Working Provision and Uptake Survey Report, flexi-work … [Read more...] about Which day of the week is best for flexible working?

Doctors caring for Tafida Raqeeb at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel say she has permanent brain damage, no chance of recovery, and believe life-support treatment should stop. Mr … [Read more...] about Judge must decide what is best for Tafida, say hospital bosses

One eight-hour day of work a week is the most "effective dose" for our mental health, says a new study. While we are aware of the negative impacts work can have on a person's well-being, this research is the first to quantify how much employment is needed to support a person's well-being. They controlled for characteristics including age, children, longstanding illness and household income. "We have effective dosage guides for everything from Vitamin C to hours of sleep in order to help us feel better, but this is the first time the question has been asked of paid work," said study co-author Dr Brendan Burchell, a sociologist … [Read more...] about Eight hours of work a week is best for mental well-being
