Roads will be closed across Plymouth today as Armed Forces Day celebrations take place in the city. The family-friendly event is set to see audiences of thousands wowed by air displays – including the return of the spectacular Red Arrows. Head along this summer to enjoy the action-packed day and you will find parades, live music and jam-packed arena and stage programmes, which also include a free outdoor evening concert. But take note of what roads will be closed to allow for the celebrations to take place. Two major slip roads to and from the A52 in Derby are closed from today and disruption to traffic is already being reported. From June 3 (today), motorists will not be able to access the A52 westbound stretch (towards Derby) from Wyvern Way for 13 months. In addition, the neighbouring slip road that takes motorists off the A52 westbound and onto Wyvern Way and Pride Park will be closed for 13 weeks, also from today. It means motorists can expect traffic problems on the main route between with the Wyvern Way slip roads now shut for considerable time. Diversion signs will be in place during the closures, which will allow new slip roads and a new bridge across the A52 to be built. On the first day of the operation, one motorist told Derbyshire Live the closures were already proving "a nightmare" and his journey took him an extra ten minutes despite setting off earlier than normal. The A8 Larne Road remains closed following a serious road traffic collision this morning (Saturday, March 16). A section of the carriageway has been closed in both directions folowing what sources have described as a ‘very serious’ crash.
