A convicted killer who battled the London Bridge terrorist has revealed he sprayed Usman Khan with a fire extinguisher in the hope of short-circuiting the knifeman's suicide vest. Former prisoner John Crilly described how he followed Usman Khan to the bridge after fighting the jihadist at Fishmonger's Hall. Crilly said he sprayed Khan in the eyes and covered him in foam, allowing others including a hero with a narwhal tusk to subdue the terrorist. Khan's explosive vest proved to be fake, but Crilly did not know that and told the Mirror he had hoped to short-circuit the device. John Crilly, pictured left with London Bridge attack victim Jack Merritt (right), said he hoped to short-circuit Usman Khan's suicide vest by spraying him with a fire extinguisher John Crilly, right, is seen bravely wielding the fire extinguisher at Usman Khan after seeing him stab his friend and mentor Jack Merritt stabbed in the chest 'At first, I thought throw that at him, then … [Read more...] about Convicted killer who battled London Bridge attacker Usman Khan reveals he sprayed the terrorist with a fire extinguisher in the hope of short-circuiting his suicide vest

Brave victim of serial rapist Joseph McCann ‘disturbed by nightmares and pain’ as she battles PTSD
A TRAUMATISED victim of serial sex attacker Joseph McCann revealed how she is constantly "disturbed by nightmares and pain" as he was today caged for life. Evil McCann, 34, raped and kidnapped 11 people - including an 11-year-old boy - in a two-week reign of terror across the UK after mistakenly being freed from jail. He was branded a "classic psychopath" as he was today jailed for a minimum 30 years - although the judge stopped short of ruling he must stay in prison until he dies. Jurors wept as they heard of the victims' ordeals - and one was excused from serving on the trial as tears ran down her face when the charges were read out. One of his victims bravely told today how she suffers PTSD as a result of the horror attack and has "replaced a life of thriving with one of surviving". Woody Allen at Cannes: artistic competition ‘against common sense’
Woody Allen, whose new film opens this year’s Cannes film festival, has called the concept of artistic competition nonsensical. Speaking on the festival’s first day, Allen – whose 47th movie, Café Society, is not in contention for the Palme d’Or – said that although in sport pitting people against one another was “great”, in culture it was “against my common sense”. “For any group to come together and judge the work of other people is something I would never do. To make a judgment that this is the best, with the implication that in some platonic way it is the objective ‘best’, is something I don’t believe in. So I don’t want to participate in it.” The president of this year’s jury, George Miller – whose film Mad Max: Fury Road was the breakout hit of last year’s festival – said he appreciated Allen’s sentiment but it was “balanced for me by the simple joy … [Read more...] about Woody Allen at Cannes: artistic competition ‘against common sense’

The Met Police could be forced to pay Extinction Rebellion activists millions of pounds in false imprisonment claims after the High Court today ruled that the force's London-wide protest banned was unlawful. Human rights lawyer Tobias Garnett, who is an activist for the group, said on the step sof the High Court that he was 'delighted' at the result. The Met imposed a London-wide protest ban imposed during their autumn uprising last month. The judicial review was brought on behalf of Extinction Rebellion by Baroness Jenny Jones, Caroline Lucas MP, Clive Lewis MP, David Drew MP, Ellie Chowns MEP, Extinction Rebellion and Labour activist Adam Allnut and journalist George Monbiot. Extinction Rebellion argued that the ban was an unprecedented and unlawful curtailment of the right to protest.
