Every evening after work I cook a meal for my two children, bath them and get them changed into their pyjamas, before reading a bedtime story and kissing them goodnight. The only difference between me and millions of other mums doing this same routine is the fact I can’t see. I don’t know what my children look like, or the colour of their hair. I can’t watch the cartoons they love on TV, or see the drawings they do for me. Does this mean I can’t be the best mum I can? Of course not. But every day I come up against prejudice and assumptions my blindness means I can’t be a good mother. Sadly, some people still hold negative views about whether women like me should become mums, and I’ve been on the receiving end of them. Aged 14 - terrified and still a child - Heather's world fell apart. She had developed a friendship with Aaron Seaton, a 24-year-old who worked at her father's fishing tackle store in June 2015. But when the teenager came home drunk one night she passed out in Seaton's trailer, parked outside the shop in the Rocky Mountains. Heather was horrified the next morning when Aaron told her they had had sex - something she could not remember. But Heather was pregnant and terrified and alone she confided in her parents - and their reaction ripped their family apart and has left the youngster scarred for life. Heather, speaking in a BBC Three documentary, America's Child Brides, said: " I knew he has taken advantage of me but I didn't want to admit it. "I was terrified and when my parents found out I was pregnant I was even more so. "My dad looked like he was going to have a heart attack and when my mum found out, all hell broke loose." Heather, then 14, had chosen to stay with her father, Keith … [Read more...] about ‘I was raped & pregnant at 14
THERESA May has backed a woman's call for tighter regulations of the cosmetic service industry - after her lips swelled to TWICE their size after she got lip-fillers in a pal's living room from an ex-con. In November last year Fabulous Digital exclusively revealed Rachael Knappier, 29, nearly lost her lip after having fillers at a friend's house. What she didn’t bank on was the beautician injecting the filler into an artery, which caused her lips to swell massively. Now Rachael has taken her fight for tighter regulations of the cosmetic surgery to parliament - and received the backing of the PM. Offering her sympathy to Rachael, Theresa May said this week: "We recognise that this growth in non-surgical treatments increases the need for consumer protection, and we are currently working with stakeholders to strengthen the regulation of cosmetics procedures. "We are committed to improving the safety of cosmetic procedures and there are a number of ways in which that can be done: … [Read more...] about Woman whose botched lip job by an ex-con saw them swell to TWICE the size wins backing from Theresa May for tighter controls on fillers

By the time Christmas Day comes, many of them will be so sick of the sight of turkey and ham, or of the dishes that feature in the special menus that they have been cooking night after night for the whole month, that they'd probably eat just about anything other than the traditional feast. That's the reason why so many chefs are partial to a nice seafood platter, rib of beef or Beef Wellington come the big day. Hotel chefs, of course, will be working on Christmas Day, and will have to postpone their own celebrations until later. We spoke to three hard-working food workers about what they'll be cooking for their families this Christmas - or what they would be cooking if they weren't working. Cormac McCrearyExecutive Head Chef at Sheen Falls Lodge in Co Kerry When he worked at the Ritz in London, Cormac McCreary lost count of the number of Christmas dinners he cooked between the middle of November and the big day. By the time Christmas came, he couldn't face the sight of another turkey … [Read more...] about What are these three chefs cooking for their Christmas dinner?
