Cheap-and-cheerful pubs giant JD Wetherspoon has announced it has no plans to open any more new outlets in either Cornwall or Devon. Eventually the works started on the site on September 4, 2017. It was first expected to open on March 27, 2018, then the date was readjusted to May 22. But Wetherspoon has announced that the pub will now open on June 19, as workers are still currently on site. … [Read more...] about Wetherspoon reveals plans for any potential new pubs where you live
A RESTAURANT critic who said that the Wetherspoons menu is "all that's bad about British food" has been turned on by a rival foodie expert for attacking "normal" people. Marina O'Loughlin sparked outrage last year when she wrote in the Sunday Times Style magazine of a new pub opened by the beloved chain in Kent. In a lengthy tirade she claimed the peas had a "haunting backnote of fag ash" and that it was packed with "sad old men". The critic added: "I’ve been skint, soul-destroyingly so. But even then, I wouldn’t have eaten here." And while she faced significant backlash on social media at the time for the review, now even her elite food critics are turning on her. The Guardian's food critic Grace Dent, who says she has "Britain’s fanciest fine-dining restaurants at my disposal", wrote today: "When people attack Wetherspoon for its big, flappy menu and bogof deals, it feels as if they are attacking my father. "Because, although I ended up dining in … [Read more...] about Restaurant critic who slammed Wetherspoons is bashed by rival for attacking ‘normal’ people

A new Wetherspoon in Liskeard will officially open this month, it has been announced. Pub operator JD Wetherspoon’s King Doniert will open on Tuesday, June 19, with the creation of 90 new jobs. The company has spent £2.96 million developing the outlet, on the site of the former Esso petrol station, Taylor’s Garage, in Barras Road. The Wetherspoon pub will be managed by James Llewelyn. Mr Llewelyn said: “Myself and my team are looking forward to welcoming customers into the pub and we are confident that it will be a great addition to the Liskeard community.” Liskeard is one of Cornwall’s oldest towns and it is claimed that, in ancient times, it was the seat of King Doniert or Dungarth (also spelled Dumgarth). Pub company JD Wetherspoons is trying to claim thousands of pounds from Leeds City Council after a long-running saga over plans to convert a doctor’s surgery into a bar. The firm won an appeal earlier this year after members of the local authority’s North and East Plans Panel had not made a decision about whether to approve the proposal, for a site at 39 Austhorpe Road in Cross Gates, at two meetings.Members of the panel had concerns over highways and noise issues, but in February a Government-appointed inspector approved the plan and ordered the council to pay the company’s costs for the “wasted expense” of an appeal process. The authority was found to have acted “unreasonably”, partly due to its “inconsistency in changing positions on matters where there was no material change of circumstances”.A new council report reveals that a claim for £8,550 plus VAT has been submitted and is under consideration. The document, to be … [Read more...] about Wetherspoons’ claim for Leeds City Council cash over Cross Gates pub saga
