BRITS are set to be treated to sunshine and glorious 22C temperatures in the south today - but the north will see heavy rain, wild winds and thunderstorms. It comes as the UK has this week seen hail, thunder and lightning in a brief interruption to the gorgeously warm May weather. Britain has been experiencing the unsettled weather due to a front heading in from the Atlantic bringing stormy conditions. Because of this the north and south of the country will today see two very different climates. In the south the mercury will rise to a balmy 22C - but in Scotland temperatures will peak at 11C. Met forecaster Clare Nasir told The Mirror : “Breezy through the next 24 hours with rain or showers but some brighter, drier weather towards the south east, particularly through Thursday morning. Brits are set to be battered by heavy rain, thunderstorms and biting winds over the next few days before things warm up, potentially hitting a balmy 20C by the end of the week. The UK is in the middle of three days of showers and unsettled weather that has been forecast by the Met Office due to a “revved up jetstream” that is bringing storms from the Atlantic. After high temperatures for much of May and a warm weekend, people will have had to dig out their coats and umbrellas as unseasonably poor conditions have hit. A “small tornado” was even spotted in the sky over the English Channel on Tuesday morning, looking east from Broadstairs shortly before midday, reported KentLive. Wet weather is threatening a Jubilee bank holiday weekend washout, forecasters have warned. The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee , a four day extended bank holiday from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June 2022, will see events and activities celebrating the event erupt across the UK . According to the official Jubilee webpage , an impressive 2,429 public events and 2,579 parties or private events have been planned in the UK so far. And street parties, a staple of major Royal celebrations, are expected to attract more than ten million Britons. Flood and surf warnings as wild wet weather hits Australian cities
Heavy rain is forecast for Brisbane, Sydney and Perth on Tuesday, triggering flood and surf warnings across Australia. The extremely wet weather is expected after the three cities were already hit with wild conditions on Monday, leaving thousands of people in Western Australia without power, and causing flights to delayed by hours in Sydney. Almost continuous rain is forecast for Brisbane and Sydney every day until Sunday. London has been inundated with reports of freak “apolcalyptic” downpours, hail , thunder and lightening today as heavy showers battered central and southern England . Forecasters this morning warned Britons that, despite a dry start to Tuesday in northern areas, showers would soon ramp up across the whole of the UK . The storm descended on the capital just before 1pm today. Social media was flooded with videos and images of the sudden change in weather . One Independent journalist weighed in on the action, reporting scenes of “booming thunder, hail, torrential rain” illumated by sudden flashes of lightening. The all-time record in the UK still stands at 38.5C recorded at Faversham, Kent, in 2003. So just how does the current hot spell compare? The heat is rising Only three of the top 10 hottest temperatures in the UK have been recorded in July, according to Met Office figures, the others were all in August. Records could also be broken elsewhere.
