Simon Dobbin will soon be able to watch his beloved Cambridge United on a massive new TV, thanks to some generous football fans. A fundraising page that aimed to raise £600 to buy Simon a new TV and ifollow subscription has already smashed its target. The campaign was set up after a DIY SOS episode that saw the renovation of Simon Dobbin’s family home. The Cambridge United supporter was paralysed and suffered permanent brain damage following an attack by 12 men, after a U’s away game to Southend in 2015. Simon lives in Mildenhall with his wife Nicole and daughter Emily, who both care for him. The DIY SOS episode, which aired last Thursday (January 17), showed how Nick Knowles and hundreds of volunteers transformed the home to make it better equipped to look after Simon. Wakefield Council spent £831,000 on CCTV to watch its residents last year, according to official figures. Across England, council spending on cameras hit £78 million in the 2017-18 financial year. Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government figures show it is one area of spending that has gone up nationally since 2010.The AA has accused councils of making “shed loads of money” from drivers caught by cameras and warned they have become dependent on the cash that fines bring in.The highest spender last year was Leeds, with a CCTV cost of £4 million. SPAIN’S Ministry of Public Works has announced that it will not be taking any action against Ryanair in the aftermath of the racist incident that happened on a Barcelona to London flight back in October. The story made the international news, and a video taken by another passenger at the time was also seen by millions across social media, when a 77-year-old male passenger refused to travel with a black woman sitting next to him.
