The London Marathon is one of the greatest spectacles in a city with its fair share of magnificent sights – and as ever, this year promises to be a festival of outlandish speed, costumes, pained celebrities and extraordinary stories. No fewer than 42,000 runners will participate in the 26.2-mile race (42 km), with a total of 95 individuals attempting to break Guinness World Records. Also on the start line will be 85-year-old Ken Jones, one of only 11 remaining 'ever-presents' to have taken part in all of the 39 London Marathons since the race launched in 1981. The oldest runner in the race, Jones will be accompanied by his daughter during Sunday's event.
