Netflix’s ad-supported plan won’t allow you to download shows to watch offline
Netflix is reportedly making changes to its cheaper ad-supported subscription plan by not allowing users to download movies and TV shows to watch offline. People might have been willing to endure ads in the middle of their Netflix binges if it meant they had to pay less but it looks like they might be losing out on an important feature. The streaming giant’s upcoming ad-supported plans might disable downloading shows and movies for offline viewing as reported by Bloomberg . This would be a major inconvenience for people who like to download their favourite shows and movies to their devices to watch on a flight or on the tube to work. The removal of this feature was spotted in codes within Netflix’s iOS app by developer Steve Moser. House of Questions: All Eyes on HBO’s
Photo-Illustration: Vulture; Photo by HBO Max Game of Thrones ended its epic eight-season run three years ago as the most-watched show in HBO history, an unlikely outcome given how it started back in April 2011 . While network suits always had confidence in the show’s long-term prospects — hence the massive investment in production and marketing —they were also fairly certain it would not be setting any records out of the gate. In fact, they weren’t even thinking it would be their biggest hit of the season. “No one is expecting it to hit Boardwalk Empire numbers,” an exec at the network emailed me at the time. Perhaps it was a case of preemptive spin, but those internal predictions turned out to be right: The very first GOT opened with 4.3 million linear viewers, about a half-million fewer than watched the series premiere of Terrence Winter’s mob drama seven months earlier. More than a decade later, HBO is once again getting ready to launch an adaption of a book from … [Read more...] about House of Questions: All Eyes on HBO’s
Episode of children’s show Bluey ‘banned’ in the US ‘because character farted’
An episode of an Australian children’s TV show was reportedly ‘banned’ from Disney Plus in the US after it depicted a character farting. However, it’s since been claimed that the company is ‘reevaluating’ the decision. Bluey, a cartoon which follows a six-year-old Blue Heeler puppy as well as her friends and family, first launched in Australia in 2018. Having been produced by Australian company Ludo Studio and commissioned by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and the BBC, the series is available to watch in the US and around the world on streaming platform Disney Plus. Earlier this month, the third season premiered on Disney Plus. However, fans quickly spotted that a certain episode, titled Family Meeting, had been omitted from the season. In the episode in question, Bluey’s dad, Bandit, is accused of farting in front of his eldest daughter while getting out of bed. One person on Twitter pointed out that Disney had ‘banned’ the episode despite Lion King … [Read more...] about Episode of children’s show Bluey ‘banned’ in the US ‘because character farted’
I’m a single mum and was hospitalised after cutting down to one meal a day to save money – I may have to beg
A SINGLE mum-of-two who says she has been admitted to hospital twice after eating one meal a day to save money is now considering begging. Kelly Thomson, 43, only eats dinner to ensure her children have three meals a day as she can't afford anything more. She has just £40 a week to feed her family of three and says the 10.1 per cent inflation rate will cripple them. And while Kelly's universal credit covers her £1,300 monthly rent and a few other costs, she said she has just £160 a month left for everything else. She says rising food prices have made it near impossible for her to feed herself as well as her son Alfie Peek, 14, and daughter Louise Brown, 11. The 43-year-old has lost two stone because she only eats once a day, and was forced to take her daughter's birthday gift to Cash Converters to get money for food. She claims she has been admitted to hospital twice with malnutrition, and says she even needed blood transfusions to replenish her depleted iron … [Read more...] about I’m a single mum and was hospitalised after cutting down to one meal a day to save money – I may have to beg
“The Undeclared War” star Simon Pegg and creator talk predicting the future
The Simpsons is not the only show that is able to predict the future to a scarily accurate degree, as The Undeclared War has been able to do exactly that. Peacock's new drama is set in 2024 and follows Saara Parvin (Hannah Khalique-Brown), a university student who joins Britain's Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) for an apprenticeship as an analyst with Danny Patrick (Simon Pegg). There, Saara is quickly drawn into an intense conflict between the U.K. and Russia when the latter hacks the other country's electoral system that GCHQ need to retaliate to, leading to a series of cyber attacks that are at risk of creating a full-scale war. Pegg and show creator Peter Kosminsky spoke to Newsweek about the way in which the show was able to foresee events, and how "terrifying" it was to dive into the dark realities of cyber warfare. 'The Undeclared War' Star Simon Pegg and Creator Talk Predicting the Future Although set in the near future, the show makes several … [Read more...] about “The Undeclared War” star Simon Pegg and creator talk predicting the future
