Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's Oscar-tipped blockbuster hit screens on Friday, but it is not being shown at one of the biggest cinema chains. Film buffs will not be able to watch 'A Star Is Born' at any Vue Cinemas as it is not currently screening due to ongoing "discussions" with the studio, despite the London premiere being hosted at the Vue West End in Leicester Square on September 27. Both Gaga and Cooper attended the premiere, but no branch of the cinema chain will be showing the film. It is the third remake of the original 1937 film, which follows the story of a seasoned musician, Jackson Maine (Bradley Cooper), who falls in love with struggling artist, Ally (Lady Gaga). The film was released on October 5 in both the USA and UK, and it is not known why discussions are still taking place between the studio and Vue. A message on Vue's website when trying to find listings for the film reads: "We are working very hard to try and bring you A Star Is Born. One of the biggest blockbusters is not currently screening at two of Bristol's biggest cinemas. A Star is Born, starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, the latter of whom also directed, is hotly tipped to sweep the board at next year's Oscars ceremony. But film-fans will not be able to see the movie, predicted to be one of the biggest releases of the year, at branches of Vue Cinemas including The Venue at Cribbs Causeway and Longwell Green. According to Cheshire Live the closest thing to an explanation why the chain is not showing the film on the myvue.com website is the following statement: "We are working very hard to try and bring you A Star Is Born. "We are still in discussions with the studio and apologise to all of our customers who were looking forward to seeing the film at Vue. Keep an eye out for further updates." Rival chains, Cineworld, Odeon and Showcase are currently enjoying busy screenings of the film, which has been remade for the fourth time. A lot of cinema goers … [Read more...] about Why aren’t Vue Cinemas showing A Star is Born?

A dog trainer is looking to sell or rehome at least 80 dogs in light of the potential closure of Belle Vue greyhound track. The M.E.N. revealed earlier this week how the future of the historic venue is under threat after a developer published plans to build 243 homes on the site. Countryside Properties circulated a leaflet to residents and councillors laying out plans to turn the stadium - which opened in 1926 and was the first greyhound track in the country - into a housing development. A planning application is expected to be submitted soon although Countryside does not currently own the site. Crown Oil Pensions Fund, a subsidiary of the Bury-based firm, bought it in 2014 for £2.5m. When contacted on Tuesday, director Andrew Greensmith said there was currently no deal in place to sell - but did not rule it out as a possibility. The M.E.N. has also approached Crown Oil for an official statement. Now one of Belle Vue’s most successful greyhound teams - Dave and Beverly … [Read more...] about Belle Vue trainer selling greyhounds amid ‘uncertainty’ of dog track
