MILLIONS of euro has been raised in the last two years in Ireland through crowdfunding websites, with one in 15 people donating to more than 10,000 causes.Crowdfunding is the relatively new phenomenon of raising funds for causes, start-ups, or artistic endeavours through small online donations from a large group of people.There are several crowdfunding platforms people in Ireland have been using, from GoFundMe to Kickstarter to IndieGoGo to CauseVox.In 2017 alone, €1.08m was raised on Kickstarter for Irish-based projects. Since its launch 18 years ago, hundreds of thousands of people have benefited from the Helping Hearts Awards Scheme, which distributes a percentage of the Society’s profits throughout Coventry , Warwickshire, south Leicestershire and Northamptonshire. Now to celebrate its £1 million milestone, the Society has set aside £10,000 of Helping Hearts funds for a local organisation which works to improve the lives or quality of life for residents in the community. The weather was perfect - a light breeze kept everyone cool and the sea was like a millpond. The crews were a fantastic patchwork of characters, all spinning various other plates of commitment alongside our soft spot for getting our timing together out on the water. Our efforts were all in aid of the RNLI and so far we have raised over £900. This appropriately comes during their Mayday campaign, a fundraising effort to get the volunteers new kit. Immerse yourself in a preserved natural environment with the third edition of the Korogocho Run in Luxembourg and support underprivileged youngsters in Kenya. Runners will support the association Cooperation North South, CNS, in its projects, including the construction of a rehabilitation center for street youth of Korogocho, one of the poorest slums in Nairobi, Kenya. Participants can choose between the "mini" trail of 5km or the sportiest 12km with 250m of elevation gain, with pre and post run activities such as a warm-up, yoga classes, live music, craft beer and street food. The pre-registration on the website is €10 for the 5km, €15 for the 12km and €5 for children under 15 years. Participants are required to come on site about 30 minutes before departure to finalise the registration. The CNS is looking for volunteers for this event.
