Owner Peel wants to raise the price of using the Warburton Toll Bridge from 12p to £1 to pay for improvement works. But Warrington's two MPs and the two councils which the bridge spans, Trafford and Warrington, have objected to the plans. An inquiry has now been scheduled for November after the plans were first announced last year . The bridge, first built in 1863, is the only route across the River Mersey and Manchester Ship Canal between the M6 and M60. Peel has had to apply to the government to raise the price through a Transport and Works Act order. The order also includes provisions for Peel to make new byelaws related to the bridge. Passengers on an Air New Zealand flight from Nelson to Christchurch were treated to some mile-high romance when a couple got engaged mid-flight. Shaw Elmsly got down on one knee in front of 50 passengers on the hour-long flight on Friday morning, asking girlfriend Amy Langfield to marry him – and she said yes. “The peer pressure of everyone on the plane watching... I was like, ‘I’ve got to answer this’,” Langfield joked on arrival at Christchurch Airport. Elmsly, who planned the proposal with the help of Air New Zealand staff, said he had been “very nervous” leading up to the flight, but had been trying to act normal so Langfield wouldn’t suspect anything. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said politics were not involved after an Air New Zealand flight turned back from China at the weekend. Air New Zealand Flight 289 from Auckland to Shanghai was about four-and-a-half or five hours into its journey on Sunday when a "technicality" was discovered that meant the plane was not registered in China, the airline said. The flight returned to Auckland. "We know customers will be deeply disappointed and frustrated by this situation and we are very sorry for the disruption to their travel plans," the airline said. It can be quite infuriating if you have to listen to your neighbour's dog barking all the time – but if your neighbour does their best to try and hush them, it does make a difference. One man has said how much it made his day when he received a lovely letter from a local resident who had just adopted a seven-month-old husky. An Air New Zealand flight bound for Shanghai from Auckland was turned around mid-flight after it was discovered the aircraft didn't have permission to land in China. The aircraft left Auckland as scheduled just after 11:45pm on Saturday, but passengers were alerted by the pilot four and a half hours later that their plane would be flown back to New Zealand. A passenger on the flight, assistant professor at NYU Shanghai, Eric Hundman, tweeted details of the incident.
