McGann back next month Jack McGann will be back in the ring in a few weeks' time. The 25-year-old former mixed martial artist boxed at Manchester Arena back in June. McGann forged a reputation as one of the hardest hitters on Russian MMA promotion EFN’s books, adding an impressive pair of knockouts to his 11-5 record during his time in the former Soviet state. He began making an impression in the squared circle after stopping Dwain Grant inside the distance on the undercard of Tyson Fury’s comeback win against Sefer Seferi. And now ‘The Pilgrim’ will be hoping to put on a similar display when he comes back to the ring on September 7, having been added to a Mark Bateson-promoted card. The Banqueting Suite at Leeds United’s Elland Road stadium is the venue for McGann’s return and the card also features former Team GB star Jack Bateson. Natasha Jonas continued her impressive start as a professional as she sensationally stopped Taoussy L’Hadji to win her first title. The 33-year-old former Olympian, who fought Katie Taylor in the Olympics in London back in 2012, has long chased her rival since turning over to the paid code. Jonas (pictured) is now one step closer to taking on the Bray woman after getting her French opponent out early at the ECHO Arena to claim the vacant WBA International female super-featherweight title. The co-challenger L’Hadji, 41, was a late stand-in opponent for ‘Miss GB’, who had been set to face Swiss-based Brazilian Viviane Obenauf, and she was defiant throughout, but the class of the former Team GB amateur star shone through as an explosive finish was displayed to ensure the first bit of silverware on what will surely be an exciting journey. Amir Khan returns to the world of boxing after a two year absence from the sport when he fights in Liverpool. Amir Khan and Phil Lo Greco each made weight ahead of their showdown on Saturday night. The pair clash at a sold-out ECHO Arena, exclusively live on Sky Sports, at a 150-pound catchweight. Khan was on and off the scales as quick as a flash as he made the limit dead on, while the Canadian visitor – who looked drawn at Thursday’s press conference – weighed-in at 10st 9.5lbs. Lo Greco lit the blue touch paper at the first presser back in January, just weeks after Khan’s link up with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing was confirmed, by going over the top and to places that shouldn’t be reached. However, the weigh-in passed without major issue at the Hilton Hotel on Friday and the main event is set to be in the ring around 10.30pm with a crowd of around 9,000 expected for the Sky Sports-aired ‘Back To Business’ bill.
