The biological father of murdered Logan Mwangi says he regularly wakes up screaming and crying because his son visits him in dreams. Ben Mwangi said he collapsed at work when police told him his five-year-old son’s battered three stone body had been found dumped in a river. He was found partially submerged, wearing a Spider-Man top and dinosaur pyjama bottoms, just 250 metres from his home in Bridgend, South Wales. The boy’s body was covered in cuts and bruises and ‘catastrophic’ internal injuries which experts attributed to a ‘brutal and sustained assault’ leading to his death. Evidence in court suggested his life could have been saved if an ambulance was called. Today Logan’s mum, Angharad Williamson, 31, stepdad John Cole, 40, and 14-year-old stepbrother Craig Mulligan, were sentenced for murder. Each of the adults were handed a life sentence , with a minimum of 29 years for Cole and at least 28 for Williamson. Mulligan was given a sentence of life … [Read more...] about Dad of Logan Mwangi says murdered son, 5, visits him in ‘recurring nightmares’

Germany must solve its identity crisis before it’s too late for Ukraine
‘With the attack on Ukraine, we have entered a new era,” announced the German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, back in February. Declaring the Russian invasion a Zeitenwende – a turning point – his bold words seemed to usher in a new age of German confidence and decision-making. war in Ukraine , arguing that it misses “the big issues” such as “our future relationship with Russia”. He also called the idea that it was obvious who was the perpetrator and who the victim in the Ukraine war a “eurocentric” one, and urged caution regarding Ukrainian EU membership: “Being attacked,” Plötner argued, “does not automatically improve a state’s adherence to the rule of law”. With such differing voices in his inner circle, all eyes are on Scholz. Yet the chancellor’s own instincts seem to collide with new ideas. He was certainly quick to row back on Plötner’s remarks, arguing in parliament the next day that a partnership with “Putin’s aggressive, imperialist Russia is unimaginable in the … [Read more...] about Germany must solve its identity crisis before it’s too late for Ukraine
Venice to charge tourists to enter in world first
Venice is to become the first city in the world to introduce a booking system whereby tourists will have to pay up to 10 euros each to enter. The controversial ticketing initiative, announced on Friday, comes after years of rancorous debate over the suffocating effects of over-tourism on the city long known as “La Serenissima”. The authorities say the booking system is essential to combat overcrowding, but critics say it edges the World Heritage city closer to being a warped brand of cultural Disneyland. From January 16, tourists planning to visit will have to make a booking online and pay an entrance fee – or a “contribution to access” as the city prefers to call it. The amount will vary according to how busy the season is – during Easter, the summer holidays, historic regattas and festivals, the fee will be 10 euros per person. During quieter periods of the year, it will be just three euros a head. The booking system will apply only to day-trippers on the basis that they … [Read more...] about Venice to charge tourists to enter in world first
Internet slams “pushy” in-laws demanding to take 11-week-old baby overnight
A woman has taken to Mumsnet, asking if she is being unreasonable for not wanting her in-laws to look after her 11-week-old baby overnight, prompting one user to respond: User PinkCheetah wrote: "Since she was born, actually since I was pregnant, the ILs [in-laws] have been asking on repeat when they can take the baby away overnight to stay at theirs for a few days at a time. DH [darling husband] and I keep declining for many reasons. "For example, she's exclusively breastfed. And mainly I don't like being apart from LO [little one] too long. Even when she goes out for a few hours with DH [darling husband], I feel unsettled. And I don't agree with some of the things they want to do e.g ILs want to cosleep sometimes. "I do sometimes cosleep but I only trust myself to do this and no one else. ILs have also been dropping hints that I should do things differently. For example, they keep suggesting I should just formula feed, so they can help with feeds. "But I want to keep … [Read more...] about Internet slams “pushy” in-laws demanding to take 11-week-old baby overnight
